Pt. 1
Definitely not edited lmao
Steam rose from the cup between your gloved hands as your heart raced. You were so close. All you needed to do was force your feet to walk across the street and open the door. Just one door. That was suppose to be the easy part. The hard part was supposed to be telling your fiancé that you couldn't marry him. Or maybe it was calling your parents and telling them the wedding was off. Or when you had to pack your bags and move from the only home you had known for the past few years. The hard part was supposed to be flying a country away on a wish. But, at this moment that all seemed like a cake walk to you. That all had been easy. Hell, you did most of it on auto pilot. You knew what you wanted and you went for it.
The easy part was supposed to be seeing him again. Taking one look at his fire red hair and knowing that everything would be alright, even if it wouldn't be. It was suppose to be easy seeing that sideward smile light up the room. So why was it that every time you tried to approach his shop your feet took you across the street for a coffee? Why was it that every time the front doors opened your heart stopped beating? Why couldn't you breath? You had heard it yourself, never once did he say your name on the phone. He had called you his paradise. That had to mean something to him still right, because it meant everything to you.
One night. One phone call. One single doubt was all it took for you to throw everything you had built since Tendo away. It was fitting though. Everyday after him for a long time felt like you weren't really living. Like you were pretending to breath under water. Maybe that's why when your fiancé came around, and you finally felt like an inch of yourself, you got swept up in the fantasy that one day you might be happy like you were before. And maybe you would have been if you had gone through with the wedding. You didn't really care now, it seemed stupid to wonder after you had already ruined it.
The wind switched directions blowing the steam from your coffee towards the shop window in front of you. Momentarily your eyes flicked from the hot liquid between your hands to the reflection of the chocolate shop gleaming in the glass. Maybe if you stayed here long enough you would see him. When you did see him though, what were you to do? Tell him that you still love him like you hadn't already poured your heart out to him on the phone? You didn't want to force your love on him if he didn't want it, and that was the real reason you couldn't barge into his life again.
Sighing, you took one last sip of your coffee before finishing it off. The temperature had dropped again, and you were sure it was about to start raining. Maybe tomorrow would be the day that you could finally work up the courage to go see him. You weren't sure, all you knew was the walk back to your hostel was 15 minutes, and it would be awful in the rain.
Standing up from your table, you walked to the trash bin to throw your cup away before heading back down the street. Much to your dismay, the rain started in not to long after. All though it was only a drizzle, you wished you had remembered to bring an umbrella. As your skin dampened and you walked down the once familiar street memories began to invade your mind.
After high school when Tendo had told you he wanted to pursued being a chocolatier, you were happy for him. It was the first time other than volleyball that he seemed genuinely excited about the future. That was until he told you of his plans to move to France to learn from the best. Your heart broke a little at the thought of the distance this would put between you. Not being one to hold back the people you love, you encouraged him to go. Everyone told the pair of you that this would allow you to grow as people. That this distance would make your relationship stronger. And it did for a short while.
The first year of college was hard, most of the time instead of studying you were on a call with Tendo. Your grades weren't the best, but that didn't seem to mater to you as your heart was half a world away. That's when Tendo had hurt enough. "Let's get married," he said one night while the two of you studies over the phone. 'If we get married you can come live with me and we can start our life together."
"Tendo," you had replied with softness in your voice, "we're only 19."
"I don't care. I can't spend another year like this away from you. I just really miss my paradise."
A giggle left your throat as you look at the man you so desperately loved. "What if," you stated sitting up and discarding your books, "I transferred to a Uni over there? That way we can be together and once were done with school we get married?"
His face lite up the small screen as his eyes softened. "You would do that for me?" He had asked making your heart melt.
"I had been thinking about it for a while now. I love you and I don't like being apart like this. Nothing in the world would make me happier than getting to spend my life with you. That being said, I will not take that as a proposal." Your response had made Tendo laugh, but he agreed. When he was to really propose he wanted to be able to kiss you.
And so you moved. You found a University to attend for the next school year and packed your things. All of your friends and family were sad to see you go, but also happy that you were exploring the world with someone you loved. Something you had always said you would do when you were little. Except things didn't turn out how you expected.
Of course you to had fun in the beginning. It was almost like the two of you thought if you let go of the other for even a second they would slip from your fingers and disappear again. Every spare second that wasn't spend studying, you spent with Tendo. Even if he was busy you would go to the kitchen and help him perfect the different recipes he was working on. It was like a dream come true.
After being in France for about a year you decided to switch majors. You already knew Japanese, and now you were learning French. It just made more since to you to become a translator than to continue to pursue your dreams. This was easier for you while Tendo pursued his.
Close to the end of your third year in Uni, Tendo had completed his training. He was a full fledged chocolatier now. The only problem was that he couldn't find anywhere to work. "The job market is full right now." He would say while doing different odd jobs. You knew that he wasn't happy, but what were you to do? University took up most of your time during the week, and on the weekends you were on conference calls as an intern translating for corporations that didn't want to hire you yet.
"What if you just make your own shop?" You had asked him one night after he had come home exhausted from another late night at work. "I know it will be expensive but you can start out by selling off the street first to make the money. And I'll help."
With his new found purpose Tendo did just that. Once the two of you had finally saved up enough for the down payment for the shop, you had just finished your last year of school. Because of your work translating as an intern you didn't have to wait very long to find a job. At this point you were ready to settle down with Tendo and start the rest of your lives. His shop was in full bloom and the two of you were making enough to stop renting and buy his shop out right. Life felt good.
It was true that you still didn't see Tendo much as he was always working in the shop, or networking in town. However, it didn't bother you because he was happy. Or so you thought. After years of putting your dreams on the back burner you hadn't noticed the resentment building up. It wasn't Tendo's fault, you did this to yourself. While the friends you had went to school with in Japan were working and starting families, you felt stuck. Everyday it was something else about the shop when Tendo came home and he never asked about your day.
It all came to a head when you stopped into the shop one day. Tendo had hired a new cashier who was very obviously interested in him. While you still held the title of his girlfriend, much to your own dismay because you wanted to be his fiancé at the very least, you felt very uneasy. It wasn't like Tendo encouraged the very obvious flirt, but he also didn't stop it. Biting your tongue you kept quiet for as long as you could, but on this day they had taken things to far.
When you entered the shop there was no one watching the store, which you found odd. Even on the days that you picked up a shift, someone was to always be on the main floor. "Hello," you had questioned as you made your way towards the back room. Where you found Tendo and the cashier covered in powdered sugar. Tendo was laughing at something they had said or done, and the cashier sat their hand on top of his. While standing in the door way you watched as the cashier placed their head onto Tendo's chest. "Excuse me," you interrupted your stomach bottoming out. "What's going on here?" You questioned, fury starting to blossom in your chest as well as deeply rooted jealously.
"Nothing," Tendo replied a smile still on his face as the cashier slowly pulled their head from his chest. "We've been super busy today so Andrea came back to help me when I made a mess."
"Well Andrea can keep their hands to themselves." You retorted ready to start a fight.
"Y/N," Tendo chastened causing you to anger more.
In your mind you felt justified. In the last few months you hardly saw Tendo laugh like that, or even be affectionate to you at all. He was always to tired from working all day to so much as enjoy a show with you at dinner. He never wanted to talk about his day, and never bothered to ask about yours. You never went on dates anymore or bothered to enjoy things with each other. He was never home anymore and it seemed that you had found the reason why. "Are you cheating on me?" You asked in an accusatory tone, your eyes glaring at Andrea from across the room.
Confusion and hurt crossed Tendo's face before anger took over, "Why would you say that?" He shot back turning fully towards you with a look of disgust on his face.
Angrily you gestured towards the extra person in the room. "Well for starters they are in love with you and you just let them touch all over you like that when you don't even let me anymore! You hardly ever look at me and you almost never call me paradise. Plus we've been out of school for almost a year now and you have yet to propose! I gave up everything to be here so you could follow your dreams and this is how you repay me?" You shouted.
"There is nothing going on here!" He yelled back gripping at the table in front of him. "And if they touch me it's not like you do at home."
Tears filled your eyes as you turned around to leave. "Paradise I didn't mean that." Tendo said as you began to walk away. He tried to follow you and get you so listen but you were to hurt. You had been hurting for a while and just decided it wasn’t as important as Tendo’s happiness. You realized now that you had been wrong about a lot of things.
That night when Tendo got home you weren’t there. You had packed up most of your things and headed over to a mutual friends house for the night. It was time that you finally started living for you and not him.
Many times Tendo tried to explain what had happened or how sorry he was but you refused to hear him out. You had promised yourself that you would be your main priority now. It wasn’t until your transfer got approved that you heard his side from a friend.
He couldn’t excuse his behavior on that day and he felt awful for how things had turned out. He swore that there was nothing going on with Andrea and that was the first day anything like that had happened. According to his best friend Ushijima, Tendo had actually been preparing a proposal and that’s why he had been distant. The stress of everything had gotten the better of him and he wasn’t sure how to handle it. He admits that your relationship had taken a back burner to his dreams and he was extremely great full to have you by his side through all of it. He promised that if you could ever forgive him for how he treated you he would spend the rest of his life making it up to you.
As much as you wanted to fall back into his arms you were still hurt, and you had just started your life back over in Japan. Though you were at a job that you never thought you would have, you loved it. You didn’t want to go back to the life you had been living even if the idea of leaving Tendo behind hurt you just as much as his betrayal. You wanted to be your own person. The main character of your life and not just a supporting role. So you never responded back to him. Of course your friends knew just how much you were hurting with how hard you tried to hide it on the weekends. When you weren’t at work you were out clubbing with your friends doing whatever you could to keep him off your mind. Until you got a job working with an American who later became your fiancé.
Your life hadn’t turned out to be like anything you expected when you where a child but you couldn’t complain. You had finally learned how to fight for yourself. That’s why you decided that if you couldn’t have Tendo again after all these years it would be okay, because you were finally someone you could be proud of.
By the time you had escaped your thoughts, the rain had started pouring down. It was safe to say that if you didn't make it home soon you could catch a cold. The chill from the rain had started seeping into your bones as you continued on your way. In front of you, you was a person in a pink hood with black cargo pants on holding a clear umbrella in one hand, and groceries in the other.
"At least they remembered an umbrella," you thought as you continued to trudge towards them. The closer you got the more of their features you began to notice, like the black hat that sat a top their head, or the high top converse over their feet.
You were almost on top of them now, when you caught a glimpse of their face. As if a getting caught in quicksand your feet stopped working, and your breath caught in your throat. Holding out their umbrella to shield you from the rain, they tilled their head to the side as water splashed into their clothes and smiled. "I finally found you," they spoke with love and adoration into the wind, "Paradise."
Hello!! I have been gone for a little while due to getting a new job but I am back now with some days off. Currently I am working on a PT. 2 for Lips Of An Angel which should be published some time in the next few days. ( I am about 5 paragraphs in at the moment of writing this.) Then I am going to take another look at Time and see if I want to pursue a PT. 2 for that one as well. After that I will be back to updating the Yakuza Fic. I also noticed that I reached over 50 followers and I think that's something to celebrate!! I honestly didn't expect it coming into this account but I am grateful for everyone who is reading my content. If you have any ideas on how we should celebrate the 57 of you I am all ears, and if not that's okay too! I'm gonna get back to writing now but I just wanted to give you guys a little update.
