I am so sick of The Flash fandom trying to monopolize the characters’ relationships. Considering the fact most characters grew up without a parent, had problematic families and lived lonely lives, they deserve to have as many friends as possible.

I know that usually people have a few true friends, but the thing is, having only a single friend is never a good or healthy thing. People deserve to have at least four or five strong and eternal bonds in their lives. That said, it really frustrates me the fact many shippers only accept the halves of their otp having moments with no one else but one another.

And it especially annoys me when someone feels that way about Caitlin. Caitlin grew up with no father, an absent mother and probably never made lifelong relationships in school/college. It’s likely that Ronnie was her first real friend (+ fiancé and husband) and he died. She also had her reputation ruined while grieving him and it took her around a year to feel love and hope again (for her life, work and romantic life). Now she is struggling with the fear of her powers and future and she needs all the support she can get. From Barry. From Cisco. From Julian. From any and everyone.

Remember when she said they can’t do their jobs alone and trying is the worst mistake they could make? She spoke out of experience. She was hiding her powers for months, while being completely scared of them. Just imagine the things going on inside her mind, the nightmares and tears she must have dropped.

This is more than simply shipping, Caitlin deserves all the comfort she can and should get. Each one of her friends can contribute with something and the more help she gets, the more secure she might feel. Cisco knows her for a longer time and better than anyone. It was only after meeting Barry that she was able to overcome Ronnie’s death, find love for her job again and he’s been there for crucial moments in her life (finally raising strength to go to the pipeline again, having her life hanging on balance when Farooq was trying to kill them, allowing herself to move on with her love life and going to a bar and more), just like she’s been there for him. Julian is the closest person to know what she is going through right now, since he looks even more of a loner than she is and knows how it is to have powers that take control over your mind and make you unintentionally harm innocent people. Barry, Cisco and Julian can get Caitlin in completely different ways and each approach can be extremely helpful and important to her.

Ultimately, Caitlin’s anchor is herself. The only person that can save her is and should be herself. She must develop enough trust in herself and embrace her powers to overcome Killer Frost, because if she doesn’t, the entire world could believe in her and it wouldn’t solve a thing. Still, having all of her friends’ support might make her feel confident faster.

The fact some people are or let ship blind them so much to wish only Cisco, Julian or Barry would be the one to listen to, comfort, save her and be her ‘one and only anchor’ annoys the hell out of me. It’s never been portrayed this way and if anyone who says as if it were, they are clearly biased and ignoring important moments that Caitlin had on the show. I can name countless scenes where Cisco, Barry or Julian provided great support for her and how she needed that help.

This is also more than merely about her, Caitlin herself is a great person and friend to all of them, especially Julian. I know she has a longer bond with Cisco and Barry, but the closest thing Julian has to a friend and supporter at the moment is Caitlin. To wish Julian would stay lonely and deal with his problems completely alone (like Caitlin herself has tried to do) because you would only like her to have meaningful interactions with either Barry or Cisco is extremely egoistical and insensitive. Before being half of your otp, these characters are their own people and individuals. So, despite your ship preference, please understand and respect the fact Caitlin has more than a single meaningful relationship, she’s got multiple of them and is also an important friend to multiple people. Thank you.
