This was supposed to be a christmas present for @snackerman who requested this prompt. But things happened (I was crying because of Ash Lynx) and it was delayed for weeks
Hope you like this, sis! I'll send the second part to you later ;) I love youuuuu❤️
As the crisp and colorful autumn days fade into a cold and dreary December, Mikasa Ackerman grew increasingly weary of the upcoming festivity.
To some this may be the most happiest time of the year. But for the single and lonely, Mikasa. This was the worst of them all.
"Oh... My... God... Did you really just say that? How completely disgusting. What a disgusting concept." Sasha shook her head and stared at Mikasa in disbelief. "What happened? What's going on with you? How did you get sucked into this whole Must-Find-A-Man syndrome all of a sudden?"
"You know, up until a couple of years ago, everything was fine... I liked being single. I was proud of my relationship status. Yeah! I was!"
"I get it, I get." Sasha thought about it for a second, then added, "Look. It's okay to want to change to your life. Work on that. Fine. But you're afraid of being single? Come on. That's so...mundane. "
"I know. But all of sudden I can't help it. I just never thought my life would turn out like this. And looking back over my twenty-five years—what did I really contribute? Nothing! Walls, what a waste! And I had so much love to give... So much love to give...! "
Her throat tightened and her ears began to ache. Armin once told her that public crying was not a sign of weakness and emotional instability, but rather a healthy purging of inner turmoil and a sacred statement of communal trust to be celebrated by anyone fortunate enough to witness it. But she hated crying—here, there, anywhere.
She gulped back the tears, but Sasha was unimpressed. "Okay. For God's sake, you're only twenty-five."
"I've got to do something, Sasha. Before it's too late."
"So do something. Take action, girl! "
"But what? That's the problem."
"You will find him, Mikasa. You're both just doing your thing until you're ready to meet, remember? And when you do, it'll be forever. Isn't that your theory? "
It was, but the whole Someday-My-Prince-Will-Come thing just wasn't working for her anymore. What she needed was a warm body. With a heart. And a head. And a.... Hell, who was she kidding? She wanted the whole damn package.
"All these years..." Mikasa moaned weakly. "All these years, and I've just been sitting on the shelf, like an unwanted carton of milk about to expire."
Sasha rolled her eyes. "That's not exactly true."
"The years are flying by, Sasha. By the time someone wants me, I'll be rotten and lumpy."
"Lumpy's not so bad," Sasha says.
Mikasa snorted at what Sasha just said. "Just give it time, Mikasa. It will. I promise. We're in it together till then... "
At least she has that. With Sasha around, she knew she will never really be alone. They sat in silence for a bit, finishing the strawberry shortcake Sasha ordered.
It's early December and very, very cold. She sighed because she knew what's exactly going on: absolutely nothing of any interest whatsoever. Today was exactly the same as yesterday, which was exactly the same as the day before that, and the day before that. She wanted to walk in the other direction.
"I haven't taken a holiday since Christmas, you know."
"Nobody could fault your work ethic."
"It's not doing me any good. Nobody notices. I'm there late all the time, working on all kinds of things that aren't even part of my job description."
"They notice, Mikasa. You're really good at what you do. Look, call me later and we'll figure it out. Just promise me you won't start crying again! At least not today..."
Levi will have to understand. Though ground down by years of unpaid overtime, he rarely took a day off, opting instead to live and eat and sleep in his office and take it all way too seriously. It's not that Levi's nasty, or even sexist—something she'd heard implied more than once by her oft-overlooked female coworkers—but he just didn't seem to get that not everybody could give one hundred and ten percent on their work.
"I need to take some personal time," she told him as soon as she got back from lunch.
Personal time, she was fully aware, did not count toward employees' vacation time, of which she was still has one week left and hesitant to squander before Christmas. Though a right guaranteed by law, taking personal time usually imparted a faint whiff of mental instability, unless of course there's been a death in the family. If Levi perceived her asking for it now as crazy or, even worse, frivolous or lazy, it might move her down a notch in his books, and she needed him on her side if she ever to get ahead at their company.
"I see," he said without looking up from his screen. "How much?"
He glanced at her. "That's soon. Everything okay?"
"Yeah," she sighed. "But I'm a bit...burned out."
" Okay," Levi said. "Just get that intern whatsisname to cover you."
"Yup. Have fun. And shut the door on your way out—I can't seem to get a fucking moment's peace today."
So that's it. She was so easily replaceable that an unpaid intern whose area of expertise was photocopying his ass was able to do her job on a moment's notice.
She backed out of his office and shut the door. His name, stenciled in stout black capitals, stared her squared in the face: Levi Ackerman, Senior Associate Editor.
Levi had finished school nearly two years before she did, though he was only one year older. He'd started as a lowly freelancer three years ago and moved up the ranks at the speed of light. Lucky bastard. Lucky, talented bastard.
Buzz buzz! "Looks like another blizzard today folks and —" BUZZ BUZZ! "rising fast! But we've got twelve uninterrupted minutes of cool tunes coming up—" BUZZ BUZZ! "—so stick around for some Culture Club, Metallica and Reiner Braun—" BUZZ BUZZ! "—right after these—"
Mikasa's first conscious thought was that she wanted very much to stab herself in the eardrums to make it stop. But she smacked Snooze instead, the blessed silence returned, and she buried her aching head beneath the pillow.
Soon, instead of cursing Paradis' Number One Radio with all the fire and venom she could muster, she was dreaming fitfully about Reiner Braun. He's holding a crisp white bouquet of stephanotis and riding naked on a unicycle down the aisle at her brother's wedding...
BUZZ BUZZ! "—and the seventeeth caller who can tell me Hoover's real name—" BUZZ BUZZ! "—will win a pair of tickets for tomorrow night to see Annie Leonhartd—" BUZZ BUZZ! " —the new rising pop star Paradis has ever—" BUZZ BUZZ!
She lifted the pillow and squinted, one-eyed, at the glowing green numbers....8:10. Crap. But everything got fuzzy and warm again and she drifted off...ahh...there's Reiner again, and he looked lovely—
She squinted again...8:23? Damn. She squinted harder...8:28! Shit!
She opened the other eye. A pack of cigarettes next to the alarm clock came slowly into focus...
Wait, Mikasa never smoked. She wiped the sleep from her face. As the room bled through her slowly waking mind like a spreading stain, Mikasa realized one thing: she was not in her room.
Oh my God?! Did she sleep with someone?! She did the first thing that came into her mind and checked under her covers and what she saw made her paler than the idea that there was a possibility she lost her virginity to some stranger. Well, in restropect, that would be better than what's happening to her right now.
Because where her vajajay should be, there was a dangly thing instead that boys have. "No. Please no. Oh God, NO!"
She ran to the nearest mirror, pinched herself—hard—just in case, and wait. Nothing. "Maybe this is just an hallucination. Yes, that's it!" A hallucination induced by alcohol poisoning.
She recalled that she only drank two and half martinis over a four-hour period. Barely enough to give her a hangover, let alone mental delusions or visual disturbances of any kind.
But wait...hold on a second...she did have several olives, come to think of it, and hadn't she once read somewhere that gin-soaked olives have been known to cause, in some suggestible individuals, effects not unlike those storied tequila worm?
Perhaps not. But surely there was an explanation for what's happening to her right now. Because this would be really cliché. Was she suddenly transported to some Hallmark movie?
"OPEN THIS DOOR! OPEN THIS DOOR!!!"
Mikasa was taken aback once the door started to pound like a bulldozer was about to demolish the place.
She reluctantly opened her door and her suspicions were confirmed. Staring at her face using his eyes was a bit creepy
And here he was or she, all wrapped up in her fine 400-thread-count bedding like a birthday present from hell. Happy 26th, Mikasa! Here you go. Hope you like it!
But it wasn't her birthday. Thank God at least for that.
"Explain this," Levi said as he pointed to the breast area of Mikasa's body. "Uh, it seemed like we switched bodies?"
God, she wished for a boy not to be a boy.
