i'm currently in germany on a study abroad program with my university. i've always loved how different this country looked from my home, so i've been making an effort to sketch some of the places i go--both to remember my time here and also to practice drawing scenes (something i'm lacking in). I'll be queueing what i've done so far to share :)

i had a lab earlier this week that involved sketching rock features we saw on a hike, and they were suuuuuper rough, like "you might be able to tell you're looking at a cliff drawing unless you're thinking abstractly" kind of rough. not my best work! But i had a lot of fun sketching from life and ive wanted to build my landscape drawing skills for awhile, so i took time today to sketch a photo i took last year at Capitol Reef National Park in Utah, finding that maybe my landscape and rock art skills aren't that bad when i slow down and take my time.

Mondays are better with an octopus squid 🦑💫
The octopus squid (Octopoteuthis deletron) is unusual among squids. Most squids have eight arms and two long tentacles, making a total of 10 appendages. As young Octopoteuthis mature into adults, their two feeding tentacles are reabsorbed into their bodies.
During the day, octopus squid dwell in the dim waters of the twilight zone. Once the sun sets, they swim up to the ocean’s surface, using the cover of darkness to feast in these food-rich waters. Every evening, countless other animals join Octopoteuthis in this massive migration between the deep sea and the surface.
What the octopus squid eats is still largely a mystery, but we do know that Octopoteuthis is a tasty snack for many organisms. This squid is on the menu for a variety of predators, including sperm whales, blue sharks, rattail fishes, and even seabirds—no wonder they hide in dark, deep waters during the day! Like many fishes, squids, and other animals that live in the ocean’s twilight zone, Octopoteuthis provides a vital link between the surface and the deep sea.

i just saw a youtube short of brandon sanderson on a podcast. the whole time hes talking hes doing book signings. what a flex. so many bitches on my dick i gotta multitask
brandon sanderson is actually just built different. once on a podcast with patrick rothfuss they were talking about tools to write better and he said "i try to limit myself to 8 hours of writing per day." he took time off of writing during the first year of covid and accidentally wrote four unplanned books. he teaches a class at byu. his wife has a codeword to get him to stop writing in his head because at any given moment you might think he's doing something normal but no he's also writing another novel. stephen king said he's insane
Fuck yeah!!

i recently started another bg3 file (crazy for me (not)) with some friends and during character creation we decided to base all our tav's on characters that we had played together in a previous oneshot of the avatar: the last airbender tabletop rpg; these are them, put into bg3!
now the bit is to pretend that it's all a bg3/atla crossover: we hail from baldur's--i mean republic city, we're all benders (which is made a lot more fun by elemental cantrip mods!), and we're sick with a bad case of the pentapox. mindflayers? you mean pentapusses?? our dream visitors are all images of avatars of the past... like whatever's causing them wants to appear trustworthy.
i personally think it's also been made more fun by intentionally choosing not to class as way of the four elements monks, instead getting our "bending" spells from mods and interpreting other existing spells as manipulation of our elements (for example, hold person is quite clearly a bloodbending technique, and enhance jump is just earthbended ground giving you a boost), and then our classes reflect our character's personalities--i play a druid because my character was originally from the swamp and very unwise in societal situations, closer to animals and spirits than her fellow humans. it makes for a super engaging and creative playing experience, and i can't wait to get on and play more when our schedules line up again.
bonus: i dredged up the old sketches i had of two of these characters in the actual atla oneshot from a couple years back :) one is landscape and one is portrait so they'll probably format weird, they're under the read more :)
