In Annihilation, Tessa plays a physicist that is also a self harm survivor. I wasn’t expecting it because that detail hadn’t been released about her character. I too, am a survivor of self harm. So when in the movie I see this black woman with self harm scars, I nearly started sobbing. I’ve never seen that on the big screen before. I tweeted Tessa about it and she replied 😭😭😭😭 my heart is sobbing ❤️

Annihilation is a movie with five female leads (including Natalie Portman, Gina Rodriguez, and Tessa Thompson) who are all scientists charging into a possibly alien infested territory. 

And, get this, Oscar Isaac (the only prominent male character in the movie) is kind of the damsel in distress. 

The movie is a sci-fi thriller that is disturbing and intriguing and all around mind blowing. The visuals alone are worth the watch bc they’re absolutely gorgeous, and the storyline is brilliant. 

Some of the scenes/scenery were so creepy I’m sure they’ll stay with me for a very long time. 

I assure you that you’ll be thinking about the ending long after the movie is done.

Sadly, the movie got snubbed and sold to Netflix without being shown in cinemas bc it was “too intellectual for general audiences” (which is a bs excuse bc this movie deserves better) but the good news is that it’s on Netflix now and y’all can watch it!!

Basically…. just. Go watch this movie pls!!!!!!

This movie is spectacularly beautiful and was abandoned at the last minute by Paramount’s publicity department. Not so much based on Jeff Vandermeer’s book as set in the roughly the same world, this movie tells the story of an expedition into the Southern Reach’s Area X.

Rule: Don’t cheat on your spouse.
