“Wolverine… I found out I have a soul.” “I could have told you that, kid.”
undcrlings:
“hello? can anyone hear me?” spencer called, loudly, desperation present in his voice as he fought to maintain a level head. it was difficult to think clearly when hanging by his ankle, several feet above the ground. while it felt nice to know his trap worked, he would’ve preferred someone else being the one to activate it. that way he could’ve quickly deactivated it, and been on his way, but no, he had to step on it! and now he was forced to hang there, waiting for someone to come to his rescue. “i could use some help!” he called, this time louder and definitely more desperate. @sniickt @inviictas
“just hanging out?” it was a damn shame that laura’s joke went unheard by the people who knew her best, who thought that such a thing wasn’t POSSIBLE ; the half smile fixed on her face was small and private, that thought providing her with almost as much entertainment as spencer’s current predicament. she could hear the desperation in his voice - in fact, it was the ONLY reason she had sought to find the one calling for help - but she had expected something more serious than what she was met with. “was this intentional?”
sherbetsunsetsmm:
“Yeah of course not. If I’ve heard that once I’ve heard it a million times before.” He took another swig from his bottle, watching as the people running out of the club were shoving all sorts up their noses. He was pretty sure some of it was literally just salt. He grimaced and rustled his hair a little. He hadn’t realised the woman was still there so he shifted around to look her in the face and was confused by how much she cared. “If I didn’t have a kid I had to take care of I’d have been the first in there.” He admitted, shrugging a little. “Sue me.”
“believe it.” she bristled, but hid it well. getting lumped in with these people...- laura didn’t often feel OFFENSE ( it was hard to find such an emotion, given everything ), but she sure didn’t enjoy the feeling. they were making a show of themselves. they were being children, misbehaving while the RULES were suspended - they were being the worst versions of themselves, and if laura was acting in kind, she could be even worse. “i see no child,” she even glanced around like she were making sure, though she wouldn’t have made such a key mistake. “you’re sitting here, watching. you’re already in the midst of it, but you’re using the thought of your child to curb your impulse. interesting.”
cfselcouth:
❛ do not do that. because you could get hurt or worse. ❜ / @sniickt !
“ don’t worry about me, laura, “ said alva, flashing her a sneaky, private smile. “ i could literally climb this in my sleep. “ she kicked off both of her vans and took off her socks, wiping her sweaty palms onto her shorts. alva positioned herself as she started the monkey climb up the side of the side of the football post. DRUNK AND ATHLETIC was never a good combo.
“incredibly, i remain without confidence.” oh, laura had BUCKETS of faith in alva on most given days. she had seen the girl play - her competitive streak inspired her to succeed in all aspects, and she wouldn’t have worried if it weren’t for the vague smell of drink. arms crossed over her chest, laura’s gaze followed the other, and her muscles tensed ; like she was PREPARING, if need be, to dart forward and cushion a fall. “you’re being foolish. a, uh...- a real idiot child.” as felicity would have said, if she were here.
stephaniewindsor:
Stephanie was fully prepared to swing. She was smart, but totally oblivious to the fact that most people in this crazy town were probably stronger (with real training) than she was. Or maybe she just had a death wish. But something about the girl’s words startled Steph. She dropped the bat. “Help?”
“wise choice.” she wouldn’t have retaliated. really ; if stephanie had actually proceeded to swing the bat into her, laura would have been able to smother that first instinct of hitting back. but she wouldn’t have fallen. she wouldn’t have even been fazed. that might’ve freaked the younger out more than anything. “i can get you some place safe. believe it or not ; this ISN’T it.”
stephaniewindsor:
“If you come any closer I’ll fucking hit you,” giving the bat a swing for good measure, Steph lunged forward slightly. Maybe there were better ways to respond to the chaos outside, but Stephanie had never been known for her tact.
“go ahead. you’d want to be stronger than you look for it to have the desired effect.” she didn’t actually step any closer to stephanie ; confident as she was that she could TAKE it, she wasn’t actually stood there to get the shit beat out of her with a baseball bat. “i was going to offer my help.”
sherbetsunsetsmm:
Rory’s club had been raided and quite frankly, destroyed. He had to admit, he didn’t really give a toss. Instead of desperately trying to defend it against a dozen or so crazed rioters, he decided to grab a beer, take a seat outside and defend it from there. “Get t’fuck. There’s nothing left in there, get out. There’s another club to be raided just down the road. You’ll need to try much harder to try and get me to join you.”
“i’m not apart of that group,” she said, derisively ; her gaze focused one such band of raiders who were yelling and laughing and tossing rocks in the distance. she could have stopped them. moreso than that, she probably should have - and if this weren’t the survival situation that it were, would. as was, she had expected this amount of trouble to happen sooner than it had, and she couldn’t forsake them their time to let off steam. if need be, she would step in ; but it would need to show no signs of stopping. “but you sound as if you almost want to be.”
cfselcouth:
“ i know this is a really tense situation, “ luke says with a smile, placatable. he’s sitting crossed legged, backpack tossed carelessly on the ground beside him. “ a dome is trapping is in here. i’m seeing people that i used to smoke weed under bleachers with. it’s a lot. “ a bottle was nestled between his legs as he set up SHOT GLASSES on the table. “ but you know what always makes me feel better ? “
it was incredible, really, how much this boy could remind her of a CERTAIN someone, without ( she assumed ) even trying, and she reacted to such a realization in kind ; amusement crossing her features that didn’t entirely fit. she had always thought of mikhail as a one off, and perhaps, he remained so - it did seem that luke had triumphed over any of the traits that kid displayed as a side effect of his actions, at least. “perhaps drinking alcohol isn’t the best idea, at current moment.”
skellingtoncass:
“Anybody feeling like they made horrible academic choices when they came to WDA?” Cass commented, off hand.”Like the high level of siblings and aunts and uncles did lean towards it. Plus the moms but I could have gone to a school in Connecticut?”
“i suppose it would have been better?” laura raised an eyebrow, turning her statement into a question at the very last moment. she didn’t know anything about schools elsewhere, and much as she presumed the best of them ; a part of her did wonder if this world simply hated education.
rcttlingstars:
justice watches in silence as laura tries to balance the package on top of her already loaded pile. “do you want a basket or something ? might make it easier to carry.” she offers, holding up her empty shopping basket. it takes all of two seconds for her attention to shift away though, now focusing on the hand that she holds into the light. it was almost as if there hadn’t been claws there to begin with. an intrigued glimmer sparkles in justice’s curious gaze and she nods her head in appreciation, moving to reach up onto the shelf to grab a different flavor of the noodles she’d been reaching for before laura so possessively claimed them. “who are you ?”
“i’m fine.” she should have GRABBED a basket. it was the one thing she had dropped the ball on, so to speak, and she was certainly regretting it now ; but laura didn’t admit things like DEFEAT. she was better than. much as she was struggling, she would continue to rather than admit that perhaps, her method had been flawed from the start. she moved out of justice’s way, allowing the other the freedom to grab from the shelf she had otherwise been blocking, taken aback that their conversation was now continuing. “laura kinney. i’m...- an exchange student.” she wasn’t, anymore. she HADN’T been, for a year. but justice didn’t need to know that.
* closed starter for @rcttlingstars / “what’d you do? what’d you say?”
“i’m not quippy.” she certainly had the CAPACITY to be ; but laura was a weapon, and weapons did not pause before they carried out their role to deliver a fatal one liner. tv led people to a lot of false conclusions, but one of the worst was that anyone had time in such situations to say ANYTHING at all. “her skin was indestructible, but her insides weren’t. i drowned her. it was the ONLY way.”
* closed starter for @criedpowcr / “can a paring knife remove a human heart in under a minute?”
“if i’m the one holding it.” she treats her answer like a joke - smiling widely back at her friend ( she wouldn’t admit it, not even to herself, but she had MISSED the blonde the most, while she was gone - a certain amount of warmth maintained for the girl who had taught her about christmas ). she even held back a chuckle. it was unlikely that the other was dim enough by now, however, to doubt laura’s words. she looked towards the knife in question, clutched in the others hands ; and clucked her tongue. “it won’t do you much good, however.”
spellboxnd:
leo stared down at the frozen treat with a thoughtful hum, twisting it around to examine it. “why would you put dye in food?” aesthetics had never mattered much to him, and he’d never experienced food with nice presentation before. he was just glad to be eating, for the most part. “how long does the color last?” he asked, voice muffled as he stuck out his tongue to try and get a look at it.
“presentation. people enjoy food that LOOKS good, more than they do food that doesn’t. ultimately, it’s why they’re weak, and won’t survive the coming months.” a turn, for certain, but laura had... something of a point, at least in her own mind. no one could afford to be PICKY, anymore, and yet she feared that they would remain so. “it depends. an hour or so, typically. you could scrub it off.”
undcrlings:
mikhail volkov was having an awful week, perhaps, one of the worst of his life, second only to the one where he found out his parents were quite literally sending him to another dimension. and no, it wasn’t just because of the sudden appearance of the dome. normally, he’d be quite thrilled by the situation - a survival of the fittest of the sorts. rather, he was just in a fowl mood, for no discernible reason, and the sudden appearance of laura kinney did nothing to help. if anything, her close proximity and low tone put him on edge. “it’s just a tad hot, don’t you think?” he managed to retort, eyebrows furrowing together as he turned his head to look at laura, showing her that he wasn’t afraid of her.
“i suggest getting used to that.” and she meant it, in a very literal way. what no one was taking about was - if the dome really WAS impenetrable, and there were no holes within it, then sooner or later, it would act as a oversized greenhouse. if the lack of resources didn’t whittle them down, before long, the rising temperatures surely would ; at least, that was what laura thought. mikhail never took ANYTHING seriously enough, but laura had already thought about this. “you’ll burn before the rest of us.” he was RUSSIAN, after all.
mattbieste:
“Only the appropriate amount of shock,” he replied, unnerved by her careless attitude about the gravity of their situation but remaining composed as usual. “It is not every day that I expect to be riding home in France and the next moment waking up on the lawns of my former school. That being put into perspective, though,” he thought aloud, clasping his watch back around his wrist, “I feel like it leaves very few scenarios as to how this occurred, but the reasons are allusive.” He looked up to her, fixing her in his concerned stare which looked permanently like that of an older brother taking disappointed interest in the happenings of a younger sibling. “You do not seem too terribly bothered by this…situation.”
“i could slap you,” it’s hard to tell how SERIOUS her offer is, though knowing laura... there was probably more to it than an easy joke. she’s doing better, than most ; it shows even in the way she STANDS, feet apart, hands crossed over her chest. there is no hint of anxiety in her bones, no telltale quiver to her voice, no inability not to meet the others gaze with her own and lock there. he’s right to point it out, given the gravity of the whole situation. “i was pulled from my ‘home dimension’ and dropped here, once before. as far from ideal as this particular situation is, i’ve lived worse.” that was that. she glanced over him, once more, like she was attempting to gauge how much he could take, and decided not to sugarcoat the rest of the news. “you won’t be able to travel back to france. we’re being imprisoned, here.”
