i've had this bucktommy fic idea since before they broke up (which i remember so clearly bc the idea shaped into this form after 8x06) which i don't think i ever mentioned idk but it was supposed to be one of those "thinking my bf is cheating on me when he's about to propose" crack fic thing with comedy of errors buck becoming the most embarrassing and most insecure amateur sleuth to see whether his doubts were founded BUT because it is me it would take a genuine angsty turn when he finally blurts out the "are you having an affair? are you leaving me again?" because it would hit tommy like a slap how they are sooooo not on the same page about where their relationship is even after all those years since they got back together. just buck shouting "because you left me already tommy!" and stuttering through how he left him because he didn’t see a future for them and now he's proposing? but once he realizes he fucked up based on the look on tommy's face, he would panic and try to take it back, tell tommy it's okay, just ask me to marry you, i didn't mean it like that, but tommy ofc would leave. anyway 2-3 months montage of tommy coming to terms with how he never really made up for leaving buck in the first place and how they didn't fix much, just walked around it and avoided it and pretended it was all under the bridge with buck coming to terms with hey maybe he was more impacted by that abandonment than he realized and he spent the last five years not even daring to think about marriage being a possibility for them because wasn't that why tommy left him? bc buck would never be ready/enough/right for that? then they make up bc i still want an HEA ok
