you don't need that!! all you need to do is sign up with a reputable casting company and keep an eye on their casting call pages!

sometimes, if you live somewhere without an established film industry and a project comes to film on location nearby, you can get a job as an extra that way, too.

as per my partner, who worked in the tv and film industry, being an extra isn't always easy, though:

the pay is shit.

it can involve very long hours. some shooting days last for 12+ hours, especially if it's a location shoot, and you'll often need to be there for a lot or all of it. most of your time will be spent repeating your assigned task(s) or sitting around, waiting for when you're needed.

conditions can be really awful, especially if it's notably cold or hot, and you might not get much shelter or reprieve.

it can involve being in a crowd, which can be hard for some people.

you may need to provide your own clothes.

you may, depending on the project, need to be okay with makeup and/or prosthetics (ex: zombie extra in the walking dead).

any food provided will always be terrible.

you may not make it in the final cut.

time is money and if you fuck up in the background and they have to do another take, everyone will hate you.

you probably won't get to talk to any of the actors for long, if at all.
