one thing i like about toby fox is that he takes things like, "wine mom" or whatever, something that i think many other peoples inclination would be to make fun of and instead hes like.. actually its charming to be like this. a lot of characters i think less interesting creators would just make them cringe unlikable etc. but he seemingly just wants to find things he likes about something and not much interest in people who are just Bad ? so then when you run into someone who is pretty fucked up it sticks out a lot more, but also he still seems to think about that character and who they are as a person. idk my back hurts this post is just going to be what it is

i have a lot of thoughts about obsession but i just dont feel like writing them out. what i will say is that the conversation they have in the car right before he makes his wish felt so condescending to me, like Nikki was trying to open up to him and he was trying to tear her down in these very subtle ways. acting a bit incredulous over the things shes saying. like shes just a silly woman... like his intelligence is being threatened or something. most upsetting scene in the entire movie to me, which is controversial im sure

ahhhh rewatching steven universe, i actually dont think they managed to make an episode better then maximum capacity. there are ones on the same level (rose's scabbard, on the run are two that immediately jump out). i havent finished my rewatch so im sure there will be a few more that end up in my best of the best category, but these ones stand out to me because of the subtext. joking victim is in this same category for me. honestly i do actually think the show was at its best season one, overall. ahhhhh... what could have been! i still love this show but maannnnn i wish they could have been given room to let the rest of the seasons breath like they were able to with season one

okay something i have been thinking about

i dont think its good to be repressed and i dont think that having that repression start in early childhood is good but, it does allow for something really beautiful later in life, where if you are able to heal enough you are then able to start living more authentically, and things like drawing with sidewalk chalk or wearing clothes with animals on them or finding ants and watching them work feels really exciting and fun and you feel really content and happy doing them. a certain sense of childlike wonder is able to come back to you. it'll never be the same as when you're a kid but you can get some version of it in your adult life that i think other people might not be able to? at least not in the way i can

ive posted so many Hater posts on here recently i want to be nice to prove i can do it . . . !

i watched the playful samurai a while back and while overall i didnt Love it, there were some things i really liked about it that have stuck with me. it had really really stunningly beautiful animation at times and i was genuinely brought to tears during some scenes because of it. the OP is really fun. Fubuki was veryyyy cute. the first episode was pretty killer (so much so the rest of the show paled in comparison) ! but the thing i keep going back to over and over again is how charmed i was by the main character. the idea of a boy who is so good at fighting you'll never beat him, because hes having so much fun ! hes PLAYING... you'll neverr win because it's a game to him. literally a game. it's so cute to me. the way he hops around........ gah !

i saw hokum and i didnt like it overall

im not sure if this is a controversial take ? also a big big BIG disclaimer !as i was watching it i felt that there were probably some pretty deep narrative layers that were going over my head. i think this movie was trying to do... something that i wasnt picking up on. i just want to be honest about that

there were a few things i think Hokum did pretty well. i liked the story that Ohm was writing, and i liked that it was a mirror for his own life. in a desert, seeking something he cant attain, enacting violence against a younger version of himself to try and find it, and wandering out into the desert after this attempt is unsuccessful to die. a man endlessly punishing himself, desperate for peace he wont allow himself to have. neglecting the needs of the traumatized child within him. in the end, he changes the ending to be kind toward both parts of himself. i just wish the journey to get to this point made his clarity feel earned

there were definitely a lot of things being said about women in this film. the witch is locked away by a man, and Fiona is the only one who wants to go and see if she's really there. Ohms mother is kind and compassionate and understanding of his mistake even though she lost her life because of it. Jerry killed his wife, seemingly deciding for her that her sickness was too great a burden to carry. Fiona was locked away and left to either be killed by a witch or starve to death, with the child of the man who doomed her to this fate dying with her. what this is trying to say exactly . . . is hard to pinpoint without rewatching it. women suffer? not exactly ground breaking, but thanks for trying

that's all the "positives" i have really. the cinematography didnt really stand out to me. the story felt bloated. it was weighed down by too many ideas. none of the side characters really got a chance to shine. lots of things felt like they could have been cut... why did we need both a flashback to show how Fiona ended up dead, and her explaining on the tape recorder how she ended up dead. why did they reveal the Big Twist, that Ohm killed his mom, so early into the movie. the rabbit monster felt so cheesy to me, speaking through the screen to a man who is already dealing with ghosts and a witch and PTSD and a dead pregnant woman, all on top of being help prisoner. and so many unanswered questions ! why did the bellhop drug him. who were those little boys. why did the hotel owner have a witch locked in the honeymoon suite. who is the owner ?!? gah ! maybe these are all answered in subtext, but i wasnt able to pick up on it. also there were so many jumpscares. i got a bad feeling right after the very first one but i let it slide because i wanted this movie to be good. it really wasnt

sooo yeah... a big disappointment </3 so sad !
