Since we know the Ren DLC has been confirmed to NOT be happening anymore is it possible if you could share any ideas for possible moments, plot points, etc. regarding it.

Yeah. I was imagining that much of her DLC would be adding Ren into existing Moment concepts rather than having a bunch of completely separate Moments like Derek and Baxter did. For example, instead of spending time with Qiu/Tamarack during Halloween, you could join in with the things Ren does on that holiday. You could focus more on her in Wheels and Walks and such.

I was also thinking a key thing with her would be Ren talking to you from her backyard while you're on the other side. She'd look at you over the top of fence or you could peek at each other between a hole in the fence. In the prologue I would've wanted a scene where instead of going straight to the crossroad to find Qiu/Tam, you could sneak onto the road leading out of the neighborhood and Ren would've called out to you there. You would've talked without seeing her whole face/learning her name and you only realized who that was during the scenes after school.

Ren would've made you a yarn friendship bracelet in Step 2 and she could've shown you skateboard tricks or you could've traded tips if you were also a skateboarder. People at school would've been shocked to see a ninth grader like you hanging out in the eleventh grader halls, but Ren wouldn't care.

You would've gotten to have more scenes with her older brother, Devin. He doesn't appear at all in Step 1 now and he would've if Ren got a DLC.

It is very sad the game is too long to actually make these concepts. I really do love Ren and know she has a great story.

Please please ramble about Robin how much you want

Honey, you've got a big storm coming.

I love how Pc constantly puts Robin first. I love how they always just let us do most of the hard work for them, wether they realize it or not.

I love that Pc has to save Robin from the docks by trading places with them, showing how we're willing to make sacrifices for them but more often than not, they're unwilling to do the same. How, even if we don't save them, they never openly blame us for it. Instead, we're their shoulder to cry on. And how we're the one who has to take them to the hospital to get their wounds treated, cause they won't do it for themself.

I love how Robin can find out about Pc working at the brothel. How they'll be upset about it and beg us to find a different way to pay their debt. But sex work pays well, and it's not like they're offering up any alternate solutions. Nor do they decide to lift the financial burden by getting a real job. They don't even put their foot down on the matter if we refuse to find a different line of work. They just unhappily accept that we have turned to sex work, something that we might not have even done in the first place if not to pay off their debt, without once lifting a finger to change things.

I love how the Pc is constantly putting Robin into situations that make them uncomfortable, but how they rarely voice their discomfort unless they're at full confidence. How they're afraid that it'll upset us if they establish boundaries. They don't want to upset us because we're all they have, we always have been. But how are we supposed to know that we're pushing their boundaries when they refuse to voice them?

Love that the Pc can sabotage Robin's Lemonade stand, causing an argument between the two of them. That we can finally tell them that we want them to get a real job during said argument. How they feel betrayed and for once, stay upset about it instead of hiding how they really feel about the situation. I'm glad that both parties have a valid reason to be upset. No, we shouldn't have sabotaged their 'business' because they want them to go get a real job instead, but we're not wrong for feeling like they're not pulling their own weight either when we're the one paying rent and they're not, and yeah, they have every right to feel betrayed when their best friend/lover decides that they'd rather use underhanded tactics instead of trying to talk things out like mature adults.

I love Robin attacking Pc in a drug fueled stupor. How they're crying and apologizing during the whole thing. The pain when our character's trust in them is broken. When we say the, 'not you too,' line. Because they were the only person that we trusted never to hurt us. I love how after the fact, they're so distraught if we can't find it in ourselves to IMMEDIATELY forgive them. Almost like they think that we can just instantly recover from such a traumatic event just because they said that they 'didn't mean to hurt us.'

I love how, if Robin and Pc end up at the underground brothel together, we can try to protect them like we usually do, but how we may finally have to put ourself first when push comes to shove. How they get mad at us for not protecting them like we promised we would, only for them to break down crying moments later. Are their tears genuine? Did they cry because they realized that they were putting too much pressure on us, or were they crying because they're afraid that they'll lose their one defender if they voice their true, more selfish, feelings?

Sooo, yeah. Lots of angst with this character. Sorry if this was borderline incoherent, I had to start the whole thing over cause I lost my connection half way in.

Haaiii Robinfuckerannon here, what are some of your headcannons/fav things about Robin?

I have big issues with this bird boy. Imo he’s not as innocent as he seems.

Maybe it’s the way he’s programmed, but in his current state he definitely has age regression issues. Like, you can’t date him without providing for him. He will only be in a relationship with you if you give him unconditional love. He wants you to be responsible for him while he plays videogames and tends to his lemonade store. No matter how confident he is, he won’t change.

Is Robin lazy?

Yes and no.

No — when it comes to routine activities. He will always study History at the same time. He will work on his lemonade stand. He will always be punctual to school. All this will be done no matter how traumatized he is.

Yes — when it comes to doing things that stray from that routine. Finding a better job, joining the Temple to make some virgin money, growing crops in the Orphanage’s garden to sell at the market, things like that. He could also rent out his console to other orphans for a fee. (Idk why he doesn’t do that when he leaves to tend to his lemonade stand.)

Robin doesn’t have an issue with work ethic, he has an issue with change and being in control.

I believe Robin is older than PC since he was transferred to the main ward first. From the start of the game, even at 0% Love, Robin is described as someone who has always looked up to her. Essentially — he cares a lot about what PC thinks of him.

As for why I think he’s suspicious:

He knows Wren well enough for Wren to give him a nickname.

He avoids interacting with Wren when others are around.

His favored class is history — the subject which gives you access to secret paths around the map.

His insecurity is Ethics. He wants to be or wants people to see him as a good person.

Of all the Love Interests, he sleeps the longest.

He leaves notes on his bedroom door. He might be doing this to prevent people from checking if he’s really there.

Here’s my Robin POV headcanon:

PC and Robin were childhood friends who grew up together. When he was old enough, Robin was transferred to the main ward and was shocked to witness Bailey’s true colors. He started out with small, normal jobs at first. Starting a lemonade stand, doing the odd job here and there, but it wasn’t paying enough.

In desperation, he resorted to theft which led him to Wren. Stealing is something he’s ashamed of doing, but he’d rather steal than sell his body. In his mind, this is the lesser of two evils. Maybe he realized this on his own, or maybe Wren urged him to, but to perform better during heists, Robin starts focusing on his History lessons.

Judging from hushed conversations in the corridors, and witnessing Bailey punishing someone who failed to pay, it’s not hard to put the pieces together. Everyone has to pay. So he decides to maintain his lemonade stand: (1) for extra income, and (2) as a front in case other orphans question how he makes money. He still good, innocent Robin. This is how he pays the bills, with his little lemonade stand. 

Since Robin has a reputation in the orphanage as helpful guy, people might look for him. So when night comes, he leaves a note on his door to tell everyone he’s sleeping. Maybe he locks it too (idk, PC doesn’t check). He leaves notes for other activities like showering to pass this off as a quirky habit. Robin spends 10 hours “asleep”. That’s enough time to conduct a heist and get a full night’s rest.

With theft and his lemonade stand, Robin manages to pay Bailey for the first few weeks. He relaxes for a bit. Assuming he would make enough to pay Bailey in the future, he buys a gaming console as a way to reward himself. When PC starts the game, Robin is in a good mood. He just bought something he really wanted, and he’s reunited with his friend.

Bailey’s payments increase. He struggles when it reaches $500. When it hits $1,000, he’s hopeless. Despite breaking the law, despite going against his morals, he still couldn’t make enough. He gets demotivated. He goes through the motions so PC and the other orphans don’t worry, but deep down he’s just waiting for the inevitable. 

He catches feelings for PC as they spend more time together, but he doesn’t act on it. He’ll be sent away soon so there’s no point. He’ll just enjoy the time he has left with her. Besides, he feels immense shame from being a thief. He’s always looked up to her. He wants her to see him in the best light. He resorted to theft and still ended up a broke failure. Is he even good enough for her?

So, he does his best to put on his “good boy façade”, the Robin he used to be before he had to pay Bailey. Speaking of Bailey — to find out that the man who cared for him as kid turned out to be a two-faced extortionist really shook him. There’s no one he can rely on. His future is uncertain. The only thing he has left is the fact people like him. So he stays nice and polite even though his world is falling apart. This is the one thing he can control.

Then he finds out PC has taken on his debt. He’s gone from a broke thief to a someone PC is willing to shell out $2,000 a week for — and he didn’t even have to ask for it. PC wants to keep him safe. PC wants him to stay. PC must like him too. But does she like him in a romantic way? So he writes her a note, and hooray she kisses him. Robin now has someone who will love and protect him.

Robin is not an open book. “If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all” is pretty much how he handles unpleasant situations. He doesn’t want PC to know about the things he did. What if PC thinks less of him? What if PC thinks he’s not worth protecting? The only thing he can provide for PC is comfort. If she finds out he’s been corrupted like all the others in this town, he would be completely useless to her. He would lose his childhood friend, his safety net, and his lover all at once. That’s why his insecurity is Ethics. 

He’ll keep studying History though. PC is in the same class and he doesn’t want to look bad in front of her. He’ll keep running his lemonade stand too. That’ll show PC he’s not completely useless. He can still say he’s trying.

Why doesn’t Robin have any friends? 

He always sits by himself at lunch. Sydney does it too, but he’s clearly occupied with books and he eats fast af so of course people are gonna leave him alone. Robin also walks home alone. He never joins the other students at the lake after school. Robin has company in the orphanage, but even then it seems like he takes on a “caretaker” role for the younger orphans. (Granted, when Robin goes missing, the other orphans do notice.)

There are mentions of young Robin having older friends though:

“It reminds you of when you and Robin were younger. He had made friends with orphans older than himself, and one by one, they had all moved to the other wing. You haven't seen any of them since. You wonder what happened to them. You realise that you might be Robin's last friend.”

Did Robin stop making friends because he was traumatized by this?

Anyway, Robin’s confidence is completely useless in the grand scheme of things.  He won’t do anything to improve your situation. At high confidence he even has the nerve to show up at the Brothel and tell PC to stop working. He drags her off, tells her “We’ll figure something out” and proceeds to do absolutely nothing. Keep in mind, PC is paying for his ass not to be sold. He knows this too. 

In one of Bailey’s punishments, he sends you both to the Underground Brothel. There’s a scene where PC and Robin will be violated by machines. The “game” the ringleaders play is kinda messed up. If PC or Robin feels like it’s too much, they can ask to slow their machine down and direct power to the other one. Basically, PC can reduce her pain if she directs it to Robin and vice versa.

Here’s how Robin reacts if PC takes the hit (and PC’s pain is 60+):

"Are you okay?" Robin responds almost immediately, concern clear in his voice.

Confidence 50+: “I should've known they wouldn't have waited for an answer," he says.

Otherwise: “I’m so sorry, I didn't know they wouldn't wait for you to answer," he says.

"Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?" Robin tries to comfort you.

Meek:  ”P-please hold me." You stick your finger through the hole. Robin softly grabs it. "It's okay." He holds your finger, lightly rubbing it as you start to sob. "Shhhh, it's all going to be okay."

Bratty:  “I’ll be okay," you choke out the words, but Robin clearly isn't convinced. "How about I get you some ice cream when we get out?" You can almost hear the smile in Robin's voice. "My treat."

Other: "Can we go h-home?" you sob. "Just let it out," Robin encourages as you softly cry. "When we get home I'm gonna make you smile so hard that you'll forget all this ever happened."

And here’s how Robin reacts if he takes the hit:

He takes a moment to respond. When he does, his voice is hollow. "It hurt." You wait for him to elaborate, and he sniffles. "The machine hurt me. It was so fast, and so rough, and I can't even sit down now. So why? Why did you make them turn mine up?" Robin's voice becomes clouded with tears. "You knew it would hurt me, right? Why?"

Meek: ”I-I’m sorry," you murmur. You can't think of anything else to say.

Bratty: You try to think of something to say. The words congeal in your throat.

Other: ”I was scared," you say quietly.

"Why?" Robin continues, his voice raising in volume. "You knew it would hurt me! It hurt so much! Why did you do that to me? What's wrong with you?!"

You gulp. "Robin—"

"You're supposed to protect me!" he spits. "Some protector you are!"

He does ask PC if he can slow his machine down but the point is: when PC takes the hit for him goes “Sorry baby, I’ll make you feel better” but when he takes the hit, he finds it completely unacceptable. I don’t think there’s a more clear-cut example of what Robin expects from the PC. He gets so pissed he forgets to filter his words. He will defend PC when she’s in trouble, but he expects her to sacrifice herself for his well-being the same way a parent does.

Of course, Robin does have his strengths. What he lacks in initiative and resources he makes up for in heart. I understand why people like him. In a town full of extreme individuals, he feels safe. He’s someone who will always be gentle with you, who’ll always have his arms open when you’re traumatized. Unlike other soft LIs like Sydney and Alex, you don’t have to worry about the Temple’s rules or the Farm’s health. PC comes first. If she wants to go to the Cinema at 8pm, Robin will set his video games aside and oblige. PC is the one responsible for making Robin’s world the way it is. Since he’s dependent on you, you’re the one who’s in control.

His inner desires could be summed up like this:

Keep me safe. Love me. Provide for me. Protect me at your own expense. In exchange, I will love you too. I will give you what little I have. Just let me live a normal life. Let me be comfortable.

I’m sure he’s aware and low key hates himself for being useless, but he hasn’t been programmed to do anything about it rn so like lol. Anyway, this is what matters most to him. This is something only PC can provide. Even if you sabotage his stand with balloon guy, Robin will forgive you. Even if you kiss Kylar right in front of him, Robin will forgive you.

As long as you pay for him, he can pretend that the reality he lives in is different. He can live the life of a normal schoolboy, he can pretend that Bailey is still the nice caretaker he remembers. As long as you look after him, as long as you keep this façade alive, he will always forgive you.

But that’s just a theory.

Lane as a victim of mother-son incest, from the lens of a victim.

SPOILERS FOR SHIFT 3, and trigger warning for mentions of incestous abuse.

Lalys most qna question practically confirmed it for me, but I wanted to repost what I said in a post concerning Lane’s mothers behavior.

his mom is not only emotionally abusive, but their dynamic is also best catogorized as emotionally incestual. I know incest is a taboo topic for many, but please hear me out here.

incest is described as a blur between and or the lack of boundries between the victim and the perpetrator. it is not always sexual, but emotional too. more commonly does it appear, when a perpetrator is already abusive towards their victim.

I say that Lane’s mom showcases this type of abuse because she has constantly overstepped his boundries, and had attempted to rip his autonomy from him. That being his piercings , who he is friends with and partners with , and his general way of presenting himself. signs of emotional incest include :

• child feeling as if they have to care for their abusers emotional needs, sometimes being at the expense of another family members relationship

• child seems emotionally mature for their age due to parentification

• abuser becomes jealous when the child has a romantic partner or close friend

• child struggles with emotional neglect despite how close the bond seems, affecting their performance in school and mental health.

for his mom she showcases boundary diffusion , jealousy & attempt of control , and emotional eneshment.

she expected him to agree with everything she asked for, and when he rebelled against it she was struck with guilt and panic at the idea of him becoming independent ( also giving him the ‘ silent treatment ’. )

I believe this relationship most formed after Lane’s father died , and she began projecting her emotional needs onto him.

her unhealthy dynamic with him could have been a factor in leading to him : abusing substances , having low self esteem , depression , and trouble in future relationships.

in addition , his mothers lack of emotional support unconciously may have led to him to seek out an older partner to find the care he lacked as a child. ( for example , bianca . but that is just a guess . )

do keep in mind this is an interpretation. I did want to actually acknowledge this in my very first post regarding his analysis but the topic of incest is sensitive for me and I would hate to be interpreting things wrongly. I apologize greatly if I have done so anyway.
