–> Seven years had passed between the last time the two saw each other. The military had scheduled a training exercise between all the commands, and the North and West got pitted against each other. The West prevailed due to a new opponent and Olivier was off her game. All the men under them were celebrating no matter the outcome, where as the two major generals sat in a room by themselves. No words had been spoken since the battlefield.
Joseph didn’t dare to speak to the blonde due to her fuming about the loss. He couldn’t help but to watch her and observe. She had grown to say the least; older and wiser, but her temper was the same. He couldn’t help to watch how she moved; the two did have a year long relationship during their time in the deserts of Ishval.
“You’ve put a lot into the competition this year, Olivier. More thought was put into your movements. ” His voice was low, just like it used to be in the privacy of his own tent those years ago. His comments weren’t meant to be critizing but to be a compliment. “The Calvary was a new thing for us to try. I didn’t think it would work as well as it did. ” he continued on trying to make a conversation happen.
Had it not been required for the generals to sit together during the mixer, Olivier would have been with her team and enjoying their loss. The whole point of the training exercises was to boost morale and build up a sense of comradery, which Olivier already had. This was nothing but a show to earn funding for Briggs. The North only had itself, and when her soldiers got a chance to show themselves in battle, representing the best of the North and Amestris, Olivier didn't feel the need to sulk over her loss.
However, the entire event left a bad taste in her mouth. Olivier had hoped that she would face East Command, or perhaps even Central, but the Western Command had a new leader. A new vigor in the blood of the West, and none of that surprised Olivier. She expected nothing less from Joseph Parker and his love for his stupid fucking horses. A cavalry. She should have seen it coming.
Olivier nursed her whiskey, willfully ignoring the General as he watched her with studious eyes. This was a familiar dance for them both but Olivier wanted nothing to do with him this time.
Regardless of the clearly disinterested look on her face, Joseph spoke, deepening her scowl as she polished off her whiskey. "I want to drink in silence, General Parker." She replied icily, getting up to refill her glass. Only two more hours and her troops could move to the bar down the street.
"With things calming down on the boarder of Creta and Drachma, I think it was a waste of funding." She could have bought a new tank to replace the ones that were rusted in the North, but Joseph was better at sweet talking the funding department than she was. "Is there anything else you want to say to keep up appearances of us being friends or have you got the message?"
