Im sorry Kidd but there's more important characters to think of.
This is just a little taste of Abigail's Sunday (she spent Friday and Saturday at her grandfathers)
Abigail was sat cross-legged on her pink bed, stroking the family cat. It was Sunday morning, the only time she could get a bit of peace before her mother came screaming into the room.
There were a few muffled voices downstairs, and she was counting down the minutes before she had to get up. (Well, she couldn't count, but she knew)
Footsteps approached and the door handle turned. Abigail clutched the cat to her chest, the thing purring at the attention.
Abigail leapt up, discarding the cat, and rushed into her uncle's arms. Ted embraced her tightly, crouching down to meet her eyes.
"Are you alright, Abi?" He asked quietly.
"Yes." Abigail responded automatically. She could see the worried look in her uncle's eyes and cocked her head to one side.
"Are YOU alright, uncle Teddy?" She asked, "How come you came to visit me?"
Ted stood up and closed the door before sitting on the bed and beckoning Abigail to sit beside him. She did so, pulling herself up onto the mattress with a little difficulty. Ted helped her the rest of the way, smiling fondly. He turned her around and began putting her hair in a loose, comfortable braid.
"Abi, what do you know about your principal?" He asked casually while she faced away from him. It felt easier that way.
"He is soooo nice." Abigail responded to Teds surprise, "I got in trouble with teacher and he didn't punish me."
"But," continued Abigail, "A lot of children spread these rumours about him. They say that the principals of the school are evil. Mummy says so as well. She thinks my principal is evil."
Ted finished the braid, tying it with a loose hairband. He thought for a moment.
"Does your mother really believe that?" He asked.
Abigail began to play with her new hairstyle, enjoying the looseness of it.
"Mummy saw him on Friday and when she was taking me home she wouldn't stop talking about him. She thinks he's up to something. She says the kindergarten is bad, bad, bad." She said.
Ted chuckled fondly, pulling his niece onto his lap.
"Be careful for me, okay, Abi?" He said quietly, "Penny and I don't want to risk you getting hurt in case the principal IS bad."
Ted hated the words he had said. He hated the thought of Kidd being a bad person. But he needed to keep Abigail safe.
"You and Auntie Penny worry about me more than my mummy." Abigail said solemnly.
Ted nodded silently. Auntie. He wondered if Penny liked that title. She was always nice to Abigail, teaching her to bake whenever she came over. She was a good aunt, with naturally maternal instinct.
"I'm sure your mummy does worry about you, Abi." Ted whispered, aware of who's house he was in, "She just... shows it a little differently. Now let's get you downstairs. Your daddy gave me 5 minutes."
Ted said the last two words in Felix's voice, earning him a giggle from Abigail. It warmed his heart to see her happy. If only it lasted when she left the room.
