my pitt fandom hot take but just in general fandom take, is that head canons don’t always come out of nowhere.

when talking about Whitaker, I find it interesting how uncomfortable people get when the fandom headcanons him as queer. (this post also goes in depth about his own process of emasculation in S2 that I don’t think ppl talk about enough)

Whitaker is shy, awkward at the beginning, has three older brothers who “tortured” him growing up, he’s from Nebraska and was a in a theology undergrad, is now without a home and is the only one in his family to go to college. that’s all the canon information that is explicitly stated in the show. So, is it that crazy of a stretch, to give him religious trauma or guilt; when he literally quotes the bible to Robby in a moment of despair, but also when it’s confirmed he comes from a midwestern small and potentially conservative town?

Is it that weird to make him question his religion and way of growing up, when his major is medicine, which is more science based? Why exactly did he leave Nebraska is not confirmed yet, but is it really that weird to assume that it may be due to his gender or sexual identity? Unfortunately lots of people have had these experiences, this is were projection comes into play, bc they already had lived it. was it because he scaped? was it because he’s the black sheep of the family? which already in fiction can be interpreted as a queer reading of the character! and oh! who would’ve thought, he also happens to be friends with the only canon queer character we know!

to my fandom knowledge, and just on how things have gone in the past, The Pitt is also just a PSA kind of show, maybe they will just address the rural forgotten side of america with his storyline. You can vocalize your opinion about Dennis and not find him interesting, that’s fine! But when you twist around the words, or ignore things that are pretty significant to the character and story, you’re actually mischaracterizing him
