the trail of smoke that followed with each exhale you took was a cold reminder of the reality that was the winter season. you could barely feel your finger tips even with the woollen gloves you woreโadmittedly, they barely did anything to keep you warm, but you still wore them just in case.
your face was stuffed in the scarf wrapped around your neck, attempting to block the occasional gusts of wind coming your way as you continued to walk to your destination.
rikuโs house wasnโt that far from yours, something you appreciated even more than usual this time around. you had reached his place after ten minutes of walking, already frozen up from the time spent in the snowy outside.
you were physically shivering while waiting for his door to open, your teeth clattering against one another even though you tried to fight it. all u could think about and feel was the cold.
โoh no, youโre shivering.โ rikuโs voice came through with a soothing warmth.
his expression was one of concern mixed with a sense of relief, perhaps even adoration if you looked closer.
he welcomed you inside, his warm arms wrapping around you after helping you take off your jacket in an attempt to defrost you. โbaby.. youโre freezing cold.โ he noted with a pout, his hands cupping both sides of your face. you were still shuddering.
his hands remained there for a while, slowly becoming a comforting and cozy warmth that encapsulated you. โiโm sorry for making you walk.โ he apologised, an equally apologetic smile forming on his face as his hands slowly started caressing your cheeks.
โitโs okay.โ you sighed out, your voice wavering a little. rikuโs scorching hands contrasted your frigid cheeks, his touch leaving a burning feeling that felt too good to the point you almost lost yourself in the sensation. you could remain like this forever, stuck in between his fingers.ย
unfortunately it came to an end sooner than you anticipated. rikuโs hands reluctantly left your face, the sudden loss of contact leaving a great impact.
his hands reached for yours as he walked you to his kitchen. โiโll make you something warm.โ he offered, already filling his tea pot with water before turning it on. the only sound filling the otherwise silent kitchen.
you became acutely aware of the comforting warmth that was rikuโs kitchen, his signature smell mixed with various flavours carrying through the air. it eased you in a way, a sense of familiarity washing over youโa familiar warmth.
riku observed you in silence, a soft smile adorning his action. you werenโt sure if he was aware of it himself, but you couldnโt dwell on it too much, instead averting your own eyes to the ground as your body started to slightly heat up from the sudden attention on you.
you heard him chuckle. it seemed he was aware after all. the tea pot signalled for him to focus his attention back on his initial task, and he quickly filled two cups for the both of you with some sugar, tea and milk.
you found yourself sat in rikuโs living room soon after, his remote control in your hand as he let you choose whatever your heart pleased while he went to retrieve something.
that something had ended up being a blanket large enough for the both of you to share. โcome here.โ his hand slipped around your side, pulling you into him. you did without much thought, his arm now securely wrapped around you. โis this okay?โ he had muttered, and you hummed in response, cozying into his chest.
you could feel the steady beat of his heartbeat on your back. you could smell the scent of his favorite shampoo, mixed with one of the many perfumes he owned.
you could feel the way his hand would run up and down your side every now and then, presumably trying to create some warmth for you, maybe to assure you of his presence next to you. you felt the way he would lean against your head occasionally, his lips grazing the back of your head.
you felt the heat of his body surround you, a warmth so comforting that you wanted to drown yourself in it.
it hadnโt dawned upon you until then how warm riku had managed to make you feel within the span of two hours. not a single inch of your body felt that painful cold you had entered his house with.
by the time you had finished the movie, riku had dozed off, the sound of his soft snoring closely behind you more apparent now with the tv turned off. you sat in the silence, feeling the rise and fall of his chest against your back as well as his soft exhales tickling the back of your nape.
as you checked your phone your eyes caught sight of the weather forecast. -6 degrees, a stat that wouldโve been not too crazy to believe two hours ago. but now, with your back pressed against riku who seemed to be warmth itself, it was hard to believe winter was ever here to begin with.
because with rikuโwhose presence was warm enough to melt the frost surrounding you, whose sweet words warmed your heart, who took care of you to make sure you wouldnโt catch a cold, who was your warmth. winter had become more bearable.
