Writing Exercise: My Favourite Object
Write a scene centred around an object your character refuses to get rid of, even though they probably should. It might be useless, broken, painful, or tied to a memory it would be healthy to forget.
Don’t explain why they keep it. Instead, try to use revealing details to illustrate it. Look at how they handle it, where it’s kept, how they feel, etc. This will help you show, not tell. Let your character's actions and behaviours drive the scene.

It's been a while since I've written but here's a new thought of mine on AI-Generated Text-to-Video tell me what you think of this topic, maybe we can get a small writing back and forth on this...
The Rise of AI-Generated Text-to-Video: A New Era in Artistic Expression
In the ever-evolving landscape of digital creativity, artificial intelligence has emerged as both a tool and a muse. From generating poetry to composing symphonies, AI is no longer just a backend algorithm—it’s becoming a front-and-center collaborator in the arts. One of the most exciting and disruptive developments in recent years is the rise of AI-generated text-to-video technology. What once sounded like science fiction—typing a sentence and watching it transform into a moving image—is now a reality. And surprisingly, some of these videos aren’t just passable—they’re genuinely compelling.
What Is Text-to-Video AI?
Text-to-video AI refers to systems that can generate video content based solely on a written prompt. You type something like “a futuristic city at sunset with flying cars,” and the AI produces a short video that visually interprets your description. These systems combine natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, and generative models to create dynamic visuals from static text.
Some of the leading platforms in this space include:
- Runway ML (Gen-2): Known for its cinematic style and creative flexibility.
- Pika Labs: Offers fast, stylized video generation with impressive detail.
- Synthesia: Focuses more on avatar-based video generation for corporate and educational use.
- Google’s Lumiere and Meta’s Make-A-Video: Still in development but showing promising results.
A New Canvas for Artists
For digital artists, filmmakers, and storytellers, text-to-video AI opens up a new realm of possibility. It’s not just about convenience—it’s about creative expansion. Here’s how:
1. Rapid Prototyping and Visualization
Artists can now visualize concepts in minutes that would have taken days or weeks to storyboard, animate, or film. This is especially powerful for:
- Indie filmmakers testing scene ideas
- Game designers prototyping environments
- Visual artists exploring surreal or abstract concepts
2. Democratization of Video Creation
You no longer need expensive equipment, a production crew, or technical expertise to create compelling video content. With a few words and a bit of imagination, anyone can produce visual narratives. This lowers the barrier to entry and invites a broader range of voices into the art world.
3. New Forms of Expression
AI-generated video isn’t bound by the laws of physics or traditional aesthetics. Want a video of a jellyfish floating through a neon desert under a sky made of clocks? Go for it. These tools allow artists to explore dreamlike, surreal, and fantastical imagery that would be nearly impossible to produce manually.
The Quality Is Getting Better—Fast
Let’s be honest: early AI-generated videos were… rough. They were blurry, glitchy, and often looked like a fever dream rendered in low resolution. But the pace of improvement has been staggering.
Today’s top models can produce:
- Smooth camera movements
- Realistic lighting and shadows
- Detailed textures and environments
- Consistent character motion
Some videos are even starting to rival low-budget indie films in terms of visual storytelling. While they’re not ready to replace Hollywood blockbusters, they’re certainly good enough to be used in music videos, experimental shorts, and digital exhibitions.
Impact on the Art World
The art world is no stranger to disruption. Photography, digital painting, and even NFTs have all challenged traditional notions of what art is and who gets to make it. AI-generated video is the next frontier—and it’s already making waves.
1. Gallery Exhibitions
Some contemporary art galleries have begun showcasing AI-generated video pieces. These works often explore themes of identity, technology, and the uncanny. The novelty of machine-made visuals invites viewers to question authorship and intention in art.
2. Collaborative Projects
Artists are using AI as a co-creator. Instead of seeing it as a threat, many embrace it as a partner. They input poetic prompts, tweak outputs, and layer AI-generated footage with traditional media. The result is a hybrid form of art that blends human intuition with machine precision.
3. New Genres Emerging
We’re seeing the birth of entirely new genres—AI surrealism, algorithmic cinema, and prompt-based storytelling. These genres challenge conventional narrative structures and visual norms, offering fresh perspectives on what video art can be.
Is It Art?
This question inevitably arises: if a machine makes it, is it still art?
The answer depends on your definition of art. If art is about expression, emotion, and intention, then AI-generated video can absolutely qualify—especially when guided by a human hand. The artist’s role shifts from creator to curator, from painter to prompt engineer. They shape the output through language, iteration, and interpretation.
Moreover, AI-generated video often evokes strong reactions. Whether it’s awe, discomfort, or curiosity, these pieces engage viewers emotionally and intellectually. That’s the hallmark of meaningful art.
Challenges and Criticisms
Of course, the rise of AI in video creation isn’t without controversy.
1. Originality and Plagiarism
Some worry that AI models trained on existing video datasets may inadvertently copy styles or scenes. This raises ethical questions about ownership and originality.
2. Job Displacement
As AI tools become more capable, there’s concern about the impact on creative professionals—animators, editors, and visual effects artists. While AI can’t replace human creativity, it may reduce demand for certain technical roles.
3. Over-Saturation
With the ease of creation comes the risk of flooding the market with low-quality or derivative content. Curatorial standards and artistic discernment will become more important than ever.
Global Accessibility and Cultural Impact
One of the most exciting aspects of text-to-video AI is its potential to amplify global voices. Artists from regions with limited access to filmmaking resources can now produce compelling visual stories. This could lead to a more diverse and inclusive art world, where narratives from underrepresented cultures gain visibility.
Additionally, AI-generated video can be translated and adapted across languages and contexts, making it a powerful tool for cross-cultural communication and education.
The Future of AI Video Art
We’re just scratching the surface. As models become more sophisticated, we can expect:
- Longer, more coherent narratives
- Interactive video experiences
- Real-time generation for live performances
- Integration with VR and AR environments
Imagine walking through a museum where every video installation responds to your presence, generating new scenes based on your emotions or spoken words. Or attending a film festival where every entry was created by a collaboration between human and machine.
My Final Thoughts are of this:
AI-generated text-to-video is not a gimmick—it’s a genuine artistic revolution. While it’s still in its infancy, the quality and creativity of these videos are improving rapidly. More importantly, they’re expanding the definition of what art can be and who gets to make it.
Some of the videos aren’t just “not bad”—they’re mesmerizing, thought-provoking, and emotionally resonant. They challenge our assumptions, invite new forms of storytelling, and democratize visual creation in unprecedented ways.
As with any new medium, the key lies in how we use it. Will we flood the internet with shallow content, or will we harness this technology to tell deeper, richer stories? The choice is ours—and the canvas is infinite.
