In all honesty, this program seemed like a bust from the start. Scrap it and begin anew, perhaps assisting FSA and the Syrian regime in keeping ISIS at bay and eventually neutralise them. Afterwards, sit and negotiate a settlement.
People need to see the full horror of what's going on, and how desperate these refugees and migrants are. Then I am sure they will want to help. The talk from politicians is of invasion, mass migration.

To be sure, the two-state solution for Israel-Palestine died the day Yigal Amir shot Yihtzak Rabin in 1995. Since then, no single Israeli leader, Labour, Likud or "centrist" has been able to gather enough political capital and a realignment of political wills to change attitudes in Israel. Benjamin Netanyahu is despicable, petty, a political opportunist, and an extremist; he is for all purposes the worst statesman Israel has ever produced. But it was indeed a sizeable chunk of the electorate who put him where he is, alongside voters who elected parties intransigent and extremist enough to support him in parliament. Polarisation, exclusion, vitriolic discourse will be the order of the day for the time being, unfortunately.

There is something inherently dangerous in showing ambiguity. Especially in these uncertain times, where humanitarian and military assistance is needed to curb the advance of Islamic State. If Turkey is uncertain of its position or is making the wrong political and strategic calculations regarding this matter it should understand that, eventually, the backlash to them will be far worse than taking decisive action in both, keeping the war at bay, and procuring stability within its borders. If this policy of uncertainty and omission towards the plea of Syrian Turks continues –I'm fairly certain damage is already done– advances towards a more stable Turkish society, and a healthy, cordial relation with the Kurdish population in Turkey, will stumble, and eventually crash in a wave of unrestrained resentment. What is to be done?
