Sock weight is a whole other ball game! These took me sooo long
I miss my us8's

Look what I found!!
Turns out I had a few more of these hanging out at the bottom of my yarn basket, so socks are back on the menu 🎉
Jeezz these Wednesdays just keep on coming don't they 😓
This yarn, which I am not done spinning, once it is plyed, will be knitted into a hat!
I have not given up on recycling yarn and making another batch of socks for this winter, but it is more time consuming than I thought, who knew? (answer: everyone but delusional little me)
Buying some yarn would still be nice though... 😁
I feel this will be my new favorite way of testing hand-spun yarn: making lonely socks!

I relay like this style of hat, and it is much quicker to knit than the bauble one, they may be the new model for next year's socks for the homeless batch (this may not happen without you! please donate)
ok now I'm debating adding a pompom at each top corner...

It's Wednesday and this is a WIP ! I did not forget! yes I saw someone else's and it reminded me!
She's a gradient!
I know I'm annoying with the spinning... but this is the first skein with my 100% recycled yarn that will hopefully be next winter's socks for the homeless !!
Slowly clawing my way out of a knitting slump! I did so much knitting in the week before Christmas that I had actual muscle soreness for it!! it was phentex so you know... I was holding my tension with my trapezoids 😅 so sorry for the excess of spinning content, I'm just now starting to knit again
btw this is what a scrunchie look like for 10-12 business day before I close it around an elastic
They finally fit!!
These were my first ever socks! I knew about gauge, but not about ease or that socks should have a negative one soooo.... they were huge (especially considering they are wool and it stretches like crazy the minute you stop knitting and start wearing *eye roll*).
After a nice little run in the dryer, they finally fit me!!
Things I forgot to do:
-weigh the total fluff to make sur I had enough for a pair of socks
-take into consideration that I would have to ply so split each sock pile in two (so now do I cain ply or do I ply the piles together and have different coloured socks?)
-take a photo wen it was all nicely laid out instead of once it was on a dish cloth to put away
-eat
To be clear, there are many (many many) easier ways to do this, I just choose to make things difficult. Plus it's the first time I'm processing fibre so maybe this is not actually as tedious as I think
they may look like cards but I'm fairly certain they behave more like combs... we'll see
I may seem like an experienced sock knitter, but I had never made any appart from thick cozy can't-get-more-vanilla-than-this socks. This is my first time following a pattern for socks with a bunch of new (for me) techniques!!
Also I am immune to second sock syndrome because I have decided that this was a test and was never ment to be a pair 🫣
I don't particularly fancy playing yarn chicken so the multitude of socks and hats have left me with significant amounts of leftovers. I have, in a stroke of genius, decided to un-spin those leftovers back into fluff so that I can combine, blend and re-spin them into full 100g hanks. The tiny hank you see here was a proof of concept for myself and now that I know this actually works I'm gonna spend hours and hours using a drop spindle in the exact opposite way that it was intended to be used.
If this goes to plan, next years' batch of socks for the homeless will include a number of hand-spun-and-hand-made-from-recyled-yarn socks!
I'm out! (of yarn) (for this specific thing)
The last pair of socks has been knitted!! I'm looking around for a new shop/website where I could find nice yarn for the cause (which you can support here,) but I also think I'm gonna slow down with the socks and do some other projects (l'll share those as well, worry you not🤪)
It is 18 pairs of socks and 2 hats that I will distribute probably some time mid November thanks to the donations made by family and friends 🥰 🥰
(to those who caught it, the number of hats don't match because I made swaps with socks from the previous batch that had factory knots or that I found less appealing, a batch of yarns I bought with my own money to make gifts/maybe sell)
Who said you only need one hyper fixation? I'm spinnin' !! so turns out anything that falls under "fiber crafts" is up for grabs... someone needs to talk me out of buying a weaving loom 🫣
How about some neutrals for a little change of pace?
