was going through some old notes and found these interview excerpts i saved years ago when i was thinking of making a compilation of journalists glazing slash's personality haha. thought they'd be fun to share anyway:
He’s always had a kind of unruffled cool about him, and after all the interviews he’s done – more than he could ever remember – there is nothing much that can faze him.

In truth, Slash has never been good at bad-mouthing people. Funny, and sharper than your average metal-head, in person he seems a gentler soul than his public persona and years of hell-raising in “the world’s most dangerous band” Guns N’ Roses might lead one to imagine. Heroin abuse, skull tattoos, pet snakes, thunderous riffing — perhaps it’s all been a way of masking a rather sweet interior. Over the years, however, it’s clear that he has often tempted fate. His heart-defibrillator is proof of that. So how many of his nine lives does he thinks he has left? “One,” he replies.
In these very cynical times, when TV shows bring disgraced politicians being criminally investigated on as entertainment, it would be increasingly easy to believe the adage, "Nice guys finish last," to be true.
It does often seem right now that being the bad guy is the quickest way to success and fame. Thankfully, we have people like Slash to remind us that you can be a nice guy and still rule the world. This is a guy so thoughtful and considerate he once apologized to me for not having time to speak to me when he was being whisked away at the Super Bowl (in 2011, when he was a surprise guest with the Black Eyed Peas). I am asked often my favorite interview. Slash is in my top five, no question.

IT WAS one of the most nerve-wracking jobs I've ever been asked to undertake — an interview with Slash, guitarist with the infamous Guns Ν' Roses.
If you believe all the hype, this man eats babies for breakfast. He's a reformed heroin addict, openly talks about the women he has bedded and is constantly portrayed as mean, moody, totally unpredictable and one who doesn't suffer fools gladly.
On meeting him, however, another side of the man presented itself.
There were no explosive situations, no cat and mouse games or rushed responses — just a very quiet, light humoured, relaxed man, trying to control a severe bout of hiccups while giving full and honest answers.
