my take on piranesi and the Other

there is this conversation about how pop culture treats "live action movie" as the ultimate adaptation of any work, the ultimate form that any story is to take if it wants to achieve cultural legitimacy. and how in contrast videogames are seen as puerile and childish.

i will say this: i genuenly think, genuenly truly think the piranesi could be adapted into a truly fantastic video game. Like generation defining game of the year tier game. I think piranesi has in itself the making of a truly fantastic game, something in the vein of myst or the return of obra dinn. Or maybe something more like grey or jorney.

my point is that i think videogames would be the perfect format to mine potential ideas or angles or unexplored potential in piranesi that you couldnt get at in any other medium. it wouldnt be just a gimmick or a tie in, it would be a legitimate artistic exploration. It could be on the same level as the i have no mouth and i must scream game.

i just love all the stories about production on project hail mary. they didn't use a single green/blue screen in the whole film. they built the whole interior of the hail mary. the petrova line scene was done practically by putting infrared lights on a chicken wire cage. rocky's voice was one of the puppeteers because he did such a good job during filming that they couldn't imagine anyone else voicing him. and rocky was a practical puppet/animatronic! sandra huller picked sign of the times as her karaoke song and she asked her daughter if it was still a cool song. i just feel like there was so much love making this film and im obsessed
