do you have any tips/techniques when it comes to drawing teeth/mouths? in particular sharp teeth. i cant stop rotating this particular drawing of cyn in my head

I saw this in my mailbox as just text, but I knew exactly which drawing you were referencing because it's also stuck in my head as one of my best drawings of her

Here's a diagram to sort of illustrate the 3D shape I had in mind for the teeth there and how that constructs that particular drawing

That drawing is unique too because normally I try to draw her with almost paper-thin shark teeth, but those often ends up looking a bit awkward when it's a big open mouth like that, so here I was trying to avoid that by channeling Stitch (from Lilo &)

quirky fourth wall breaking character but theyre just fucking. wrong about the medium theyre in. they keep making references to cinematic techniques and directorial styles and the other fourth wall breaking character is like "dumbass we're in a fucking comic book" and they are in a video game.

is incredible how faithfully they adapted amogus without falling into the trap of trying to ground it too hard and give it so much lore and plausibility to the point that the original game feels like a suggestion. this is a silly cartoon world that works under the same kind of absurd silly logic as the game.

i really appreciate that they didnt try to get too clever with it. everything that would happen in a typical game of amogus happens here. there are emergency meetings, the characters argue about whos the impostor, people get falsely expelled feom the ship, they have to balance wether they investigate who the alien is or wether they spend time performing their tasks. is kind of like the dnd movie in that regard.

also i love how all the characters are allowed to be both a bit smart and a bit dumb. the captain, red, he is supposed to be an incompetent leader but they do show the ocassional moment of good thinking. purple who is supposed to be this jaded voice of reason is allowed to be kind of silly and dumb at times. they are all funny little guys. i love when they are all together as a group and you can tell they have a bit of a pack instinct going on, how they stick together and pile on top of each other and such. (theyre honestly super freaking cute and now i get those comics about girls who get a bit too obsessed with amogus guys, they ARE extremely adorable)

also another thing about this show. its a lot more visually experimental than it seems at first, theyre constantly doing weird unnecessary stuff like having one character be live action during a scene for no reason in particular, switching to VR pov shots, making the animation deliberatly shittier for a couple of scenes. very reminiscent of early spongebob, i love it when cartoons play with the medium like that for no other reason besides getting silly with it.

also, maybe im dumb, but i felt it was actually a mystery who the impostor was. in hindsight it was obvious but as i was watching i was genuenly wondering who could it be.

just a really good, solid short little show. the best possible adaptation of the game that could exist.

What's your most interesting archeology fact or story?

I’ve been sitting here stumped on what I’d name as most interesting, haha. But here’s a fun archaeology story:

It was my senior year of college, I was 22 and leading my first Real Archaeological Dig. It was at an historic house in suburban New England, so I was not even slightly roughing it, we ate lunch and used the bathrooms at the country club down the street, but it was a house that was originally built in the 1700s but had been standing empty and dilapidated since the 1960s in the town now wanted to tear it down. The town historical society wanted at least an archaeological investigation done on the property before the bulldozers came in, but being a town historical society had no money to pay for one, so they contacted the university asking if any students wanted a project. My time had come.

Then as now, my specialty was ceramics. And being the field director leading/educating a team of volunteer excavators, one of my favorite tricks was showing off how to tell the difference between whiteware (lower quality, more common) and ironstone (higher quality, indication of nicer pieces), which look basically the same in sherd form. It’s white pottery. It looks like white pottery. But being lower-quality clay produced more cheaply, whiteware is more porous, so it’s identifiable by licking it.

I was licking a lot of ceramic sherds to slow off the difference.

Got a little too into doing so.

I uncovered a new sherd, large and chunky, obviously whiteware just by looking at it, but I was showing off, and I licked it. It stuck to my tongue. See! Whiteware! I uncovered a few more sherds obviously from the same vessel, but I was having fun sticking them to my tongue and going mm, yep, whiteware.

And then I uncovered the rest of the vessel. And the thing I had been sticking in my mouth this whole time turned out to be a chamber pot.

This is how I learned that perhaps the “licking the artifacts” trick should be deployed more judiciously.
