I think i may start using my tumblr as an actual blog…. The inner-workings of my brain have been overworked and i have so much to say.
In today’s society with the rise of social media so many people are so fixated on their perception that deep down they have no sustenance to them whatsoever. It’s like the styrofoam fruit in an IKEA. People post on social media about things constantly just to be perceived as cool or unique or, as much as i hate the word, ‘niche’, when in reality these subjects take up none of their time or thoughts outside of that. The music you listen to, the shows you watch, the politics you stand for, dont exist to you outside of an instagram or tiktok repost button.
Its not only that i find this generally shameful, but its also a betrayal to the self to waste so much of your life trying to be perceived as something that your heart doesn’t belong to. I would much rather my peers listen to all the most mainstream music and really truly enjoy it, than be in my dms talking about some <1000 listener band on spotify. Stop living for the larp and live for you. What even makes you happy. What do you even care about. Standing for everything is the same as standing for nothing.
The things you like and participate in hold a big impact in what establishes your identity. If these things are not genuine to you it will leave you as a shell of a person.
The social hierarchy is nothing more than a concept. You are not more or less valuable to society for having a friend in a band or some other perceived position of high social standing. Having cool friends with unique talents and interests doesn’t make you cool by proxy. I unfortunately believe in a lot of ways that empathy had overstepped into a territory of feeling your peers accomplishments that you didn’t work for at all. This feeling of success makes you less inclined to do anything of your own and only hinders you in the long run, and you didn’t even accomplish anything at all to begin with. It is a proven psychological theory that speaking of something you want to do before you do it preemptively gives you the social gratification of feeling like you’ve done it, so few people actually work towards the aforementioned goal after boasting about the concept of completing it.
I kinda lost my train of thought with this. I have a lot to do today and it will remain a mystery so that i don’t fall into that psychological phenomenon i just described…. i would love to hear any other thoughts perspectives or opinions on this subject ^^ Mercy Out
