listen to these when you’re feeling stuck in quarantine
for those over-dramatic first crushes
sad girl reflective writing hours
my post high school love story
songs you forgot that slapped
for when all they do is make you blush all the time and now you don’t know how to act around them. it’s okay, we’ve all been there
driving with the windows down, trying to find some shade to park under. your ice cream is beginning to melt because it’s too damn hot outside.
songs we all jammed to when we were way too young
pov: you’re on my fyp
feels like a gen-z searching for their own coming-of-age story
You know allot of humanity sucks but we have made allot of really good things. Like little flocked teddy bears.
playlists every latinx can relate to:
it’s past midnight at the boda and you fall asleep lying across two chairs with your primos waiting for your parents to stop saying goodbye to their compas.
waking up to your abuelita’s fresh tortillas and she won’t stop offering you more food even though you’ve already had thirds and absolutely cannot eat anymore.
you and your primos are riding bikes to the park while a lowrider drives slowly around the barrio. they start to slow down getting closer to you and you guys pedal faster to get away.
it’s december 20th and you and your siblings have been helping your family making tamales since 8 am. there’s masa all over your hands and it feels like it’s never going to end.
it’s a saturday night and all of your tios are in your backyard getting drunk. a few of them are crying too due to the music. your padrino gives you a $50 to make another beer run for them even though you’re 15 but you take it anyways.
playlists for when you want some extra “pizazz” in your life
so upbeat yet so sad
you felt like home at one point
big hoop energy
for when I feel overwhelmed by noise
songs that get white people turnt
drive-ins and atom bombs
if you’re looking for a hawaiian escape playlist, this is it
the playlist that I cry or nap to
some playlists to fit your mood
if i stuck out to a 1940s jazz club
not your 8th grade emo music
for those teenage life crises
you’re that bitch, b
there’s something so gentle about you
i hope you listen to this and feel better
self care is driving around at sunset and eating ice cream
probably a little cooler than i actually am
Concept playlists
It’s October 1982 and you and your neighborhood friends are bike riding, searching for the notorious town witch, a local myth. You guys come across a dark house in the middle of the wood at night. The witch invites you and your friends in and curiosity gets the better of you.
It’s after a party and you and your friends speed down a tunnel on the way back home. Feeling a little buzzed you climb to the back and stand up with your arms out to the world. And in that moment you feel infinite.
For when life is boring and you want to feel like you’re in a John Hughes film to escape reality.
It’s a beautiful night and you and your boyfriend have just ditched the school dance to go to Lover’s Cliff. You two begin to slow dance outside of his red Ford Thunderbird, listening to the radio. You feel nothing but content as you listen to his heartbeat. You adore each other.
a collection of playlists to listen to when you want to escape
it’s a Friday night during 1964 and you’re out a little later than you should be with your friends driving around town. But who cares? You’re young and deserve to have some fun.
adrenaline rushing, a bass pounding heart, and stuffy crowded rooms. you’re catching a concert downtown with your friends at an indie/ alternative club venue having the time of your life.
it’s the 1920s and you’ve met up with your lover, who is a novelist writer, at the hottest new club in town. it’s true love, you just know it and can’t wait to marry them. all you want is to run away with them and be happy.
light blue and white sunlight-filled rooms, clean silk sheets, and vintage gold finished furniture. you’ve just woken up in an expensive Parisian hotel room by yourself at 8am. you might go to an art museum or the park later on? it’s all up to you.
“so will you wait for me, my evergreen?” - yebba
playlist no.7
it’s mid-june and you can feel the cool breeze of your fan upon your forehead as you listen to your parent’s old record collection in your bedroom. it smells faintly of dust in the room while you feel utter relaxation in this space. you watch the fan blades go round and round on the ceiling and suddenly you feel the urge to go get boba for the third time this week.
playlist no.6
you’re in your pre-cal class in the portable classrooms outside. your teacher has just propped open the classroom door revealing an absolutely beautiful day with the birds chirping outside. you feel like dancing and singing while you work on your worksheet for the rest of class.
playlist no.5
watching your best friend’s band perform old covers and the occasional original song in his uncle’s old garage. you came here straight after school. the faint smells of smoke and dust fill the air. the green couch you sit on has multiple mysterious stains and questionable holes in it.
playlist no.4
you’re watching movies home alone during a rainy day, your phone buzzes with a message from boy once again. your heart flutters as you guys begin to message each other while subtly flirting all day long. you know you shouldn’t get your hopes up too much but you can’t help it this time around.
by Boris Schmitz
playlist no.3
you’ve just gotten out of a bad relationship and for the first time in what feels like forever, you feel nothing but happiness and oddly confident? you can’t help but feel so utterly sexy and free. you walk down the hallways with an extra power in your stride, you feel unstoppable and the future feels so bright ahead.
