There are people I’ll always hold fondly, even if I no longer hold them close. Sometimes we outgrow things—not because we don't like them, not because they ended badly, but simply because we've changed. And I’m realizing that it’s okay. Some good things don't last forever, but their ending doesn't erase their goodness. I don't need to stay somewhere just to prove I love it. I don't need to hold on with both hands if my heart has already let go. It’s not coldness—it’s clarity. And maybe there's something gentle in that too.

Saying, “This hurts,” or “I need space,” or even a simple “No”, is not cruelty. It’s clarity. It’s care for myself. And maybe it felt uncomfortable, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that I said something when I needed to. I mattered to myself enough to speak, and that’s something I want to keep choosing. Again and again. And in a strange way, I’m realizing it’s also a kindness—not just to myself, but to the other person. Honesty may be uncomfortable, but it’s never unkind.

or when I say things I later wish I hadn’t.

Chocolate brown, deep and warm,
