Darker Daydream Comfort
I was on my way to work when it started again. The streets were the same. The air was cold. I was already somewhere else in my head.
In the daydream, a car slowed down beside me. The door opened. I didnât panic. I just⊠stepped closer. It felt unreal. Like walking into a scene I had already imagined a hundred times. The world outside faded the moment the door closed.
When the car stopped, I didnât walk inside the house on my own. Strong arms lifted me gently, like I weighed nothing. Like I didnât have to carry myself anymore. The voices were calm. Soft. They spoke to me like I was something fragile. Not weak. Just worth protecting. The room they brought me to felt impossible. Soft blankets. Warm light. Quiet safety. I was placed into the bed, tucked in carefully. An arm wrapped around me. Then another presence close by. âRest,â someone whispered. And I did.
The days that followed in my mind were always the same. I was fed without having to ask. Held without having to beg. Asked how I felt, and the answer actually mattered. It was everything you wish for when youâre too tired to keep pretending youâre fine.
And somewhere in that dream, I realized something dangerous. I didnât want to leave. Not because I was trapped. But because I was finally wanted.
Then I blinked. And I was standing in front of my workplace again. The door in my hand. The noise of the real world rushing back. And I caught myself wishing I could feel that kind of care one more time.
Is it wrong to crave being taken care of like this?đ
I had been walking too fast. Not away from someone. Just away from the feeling of being left behind. The streets were quiet. I stared at my shoes until I turned into a calmer neighborhood.
Big houses. Warm light glowing behind curtains. One of them was especially beautiful. Old stone walls. Soft lights in the garden. Voices drifting from the terrace.I stopped.Five people. Three men, two women. They were talking until one of them noticed me.
Her gaze stayed soft. Not curious. Not suspicious. Just⊠attentive. She walked over slowly.âHey. Are you okay?âI nodded. Of course I did. You donât just admit that you feel invisible. She followed my gaze to the house.âDo you like it?âI nodded again. She smiled gently. âCome inside. Just for a bit. You look like you could use some warmth.âI donât remember when I stopped thinking.
Only that it smelled like tea. That the voices grew softer when I stepped into the living room. That no one came too close. No one pushed.Someone sat down beside me.Then another on my other side.
I only realized I was shaking when they pulled a blanket over my shoulders.A hand moved slowly along my back. Calm. Steady.âYouâre safe here,â a voice said.âWeâll take care of you.â
Would you have walked inside?
