Feeling ill?

For my project I decided to go with the physical manifestation of illnesses. I am a person very much fascinated with virology, bacteriology, and radiology as well as horror. I find that for most people, they do not realize the seriousness of these illnesses until it affects them personally, but by then it’s too late. I plan on doing an approximate of 2-4 images of creatures that represent these sicknesses so that their danger can be understood, I present the rough sketches for radiation sickness and trichomoniasis in that order. I may change the design for radiation sickness because I want to incorporate water and an eel like body, but I am pleased with trich. I plan on making the mouth and penile discharge green and the bodies red and inflamed with a similar pattern to the affected cervix. I’m only unsure if I should keep the penis appendages, I placed them because symptoms of Trich appear most commonly in women, not so much for men so it is like a primary spreading weapon of sorts but I fear it’s cliché.

Being raised in a digital world, I, as a young woman, am no stranger to the ideals placed upon me from social media and society. I see the hype fixation on a woman’s curves, her full lips, and perfect makeup being seen as the standard for a woman with influence on sites such as Instagram. Women my age feel the societal pressure for unattainable perfection as these women feel that short rush of dopamine when they get likes and comments on their post despite doing harm to their bodies. I decided to make a physical version that demonstrates the transformation of the average girl, to the “perfect” model woman, and the physical dependency and addiction of social media’s gratification for toxic actions. The woman blends into this multicolored background saturated in the vibrant front that these sites provide. It depicts a blending of reality and a fantasy that many see themselves standing in as they compare themselves to these influencers who don’t look like their images. She clings desperately to this creature for without it, she would not have the attention, and dopamine rush to quench her craving for acknowledgement.

I decided to make a physical version that demonstrates the transformation of the average girl, to the “perfect” model woman, and the physical dependency and addiction of social media’s gratification for toxic actions. This is still a work in progress. I plan on adding bright colors and detailed shading, I almost want the colors to strain on the eyes much like the strain women are under because of expectation.

It’s extremely important now more than ever to exercise our right to vote. This upcoming election would forever change the lives of US citizens and all countries we work with. I want to raise awareness on the importance of letting your voice be heard among a sea of commotion.

Human Influence I wanted to explore the progression of human’s influence on nature and it’s fauna. Beginning with a landscape that is already affected by deforestation, to potted wildflowers, the suburbs, cows behind fences and ducks behind wires. The distortion further demonstrates that us as humans can try their best to make out how the world was like before us, but ultimately can’t because of this heavy hand we have on the Earth.
