Just like how Grace tells Rocky he kinda looks like a spider, I wonder if there’s an organism on Erid that disturbingly looks humanoid. I saw a fanart somewhere of Rocky seeing spiders as uncanny valley, so Grace definitely feels the same when he sees a humanoid creature on Erid.
A lot of the organisms on Erid reside in the atmosphere, so just imagine Grace and Rocky are sitting on the beach one day and there’s a loud thunk on the biodime. Grace looks up and does the iconic high pitched gosling scream. It sort of resembles a human, but its limbs are all weird, its flesh is hard, and there are SO many things wrong about it. But it’s humanoid enough to give him nightmares for days.
“Rocky….what the FUDGE is THAT?!”
“Oh, is Erid flying organism! Name is ♫ ♪ ♫. Sort of looks like Grace, question?”
“Rock, I never want to see one of those again.”
“Oh. Understand.”
"Get to work, Dr Grace. The world is counting on you."

can you imagine being a parent in the pokemon world and your kid comes home with one of those straight up basically human pokemon. i know those motherfuckers can talk.
its morning. i see my childs Throh getting some oj from the fridge. 'morning', i say. he doesnt catch himself in time and says 'morning' back. he freezes and we both stare at each other knowingly. 'throh,' he says, but its too fucking late
I'm relistening to the book and I'm struck by how blind Ryland is to his own position. Like yeah, he doesn't realise he's important, but he also doesn't realise how much Stratt relies on him as a mediator. She needs him to translate science concepts, sure, but there are also multiple examples of him calling her out for going too far, being an ass, or not having enough compassion.
No one else does that to Stratt. He's the only one she'll take call-outs from.
She relies on him to be her honest checks and balances.
Do it scared but please don't do it hungry. Please don't do it dehydrated. It's gonna make it so much scarier. Please.
Grace sees his house just after it was built on Erid for the first time, and the only Eridian he has seen so far is Rocky for various reasons. He examines the interior, taking in everything with awe until he gets to a large door looking thing in the back. It goes from the floor to the ceiling, and is quite wide.
“Rocky, what’s this for?”
“Is for Adrian!”
“Adrian…?”
The door slides open and standing Infront of Grace is a massive (relative to Rocky) blue green spiky Eridian.
“Hello Grace.”
The pitch is so low he can barely hear it. Goddamn Rocky bagged a baddie.
Grace sends this off as a "fuck you" to Stratt and unintentionally eases 40+ years of horrific guilt.
(40+ factoring in the Hail Mary mission, then the time it would take to get back to Erid and the time it would take for the message to get to Earth. Probably closer to 50+ actually).
(I do think Stratt felt bad. She did a lot of terrible things to save the planet, and obviously felt guilt for sending Grace off. I imagine the time waiting to hear back from the Hail Mary was torture for everyone, but she essentially sent three people off to their deaths, one unwillingly. Hearing that Grace made it out alive would be a huge weight off her shoulders.)
the other day one of my coworkers halfway referenced the spiders georg post but stopped before he actually reached the spiders georg part. like. I can't be sure that that's what he was doing but one coworker said "yknow. people swallow several spiders every year" and my other coworker said "well that's just- it's not true. it's a- no, you'd wake up" and just. there was a look in his eyes. I just know

"Rocky, it was a joke..."
Inspired by a scene from the movie The Big Sick, which coincidentally also involves someone being forced into a coma.
Edit: Fixed a couple errors.
"Rocky is tired of your BS, Remy!!! Statement! Statement! Statement!" - Rocky probably, after another crash out with certain scientists.
Continuation of this. @instantfoxdonut mentioned the 'no pickles' meme and I decided to incorporate it in some way.
