Antisocial social psych professor Park Jinyoung gets his world turned upside-down when his best friend and boss, Mark Tuan, announces he's leaving the country. To make matters worse, his replacement is none other than Jackson Wang, the peppiest (and most annoying) person Jinyoung has ever met. Jinyoung hates him immediately.

I’m a sucker for Professor!Jinyoung.  I didn’t also think I’d be a sucker for Professor!Jackson, but apparently I am.  This author created such a lovely world for them, and in some of their notes they mention how the characterizations are maybe different from the way they’re usually written, but I don’t actually think that’s accurate (except for maybe Jaebeom, but he gets a pass because well...no spoilers you’ll just have to read).  I think the characterization is spot on, and wonderful.  Jinyoung and Jackson are so smitten with each other, and it’s fun to watch them realize it.  The angst is mild, the misunderstandings are painful but brief.  It’s just a fun little story.  Enjoy :)

I think about this fic a couple times a week, because I am WEAK for this pairing.  We all know Jooheon is one of the idols outside of the sevens that Jaebeom is close with, and their energies fit so perfectly together.  These authors have captured them perfectly, and it’s so wonderful to watch them fall for each other.

The seven of them together were the closest thing to perfect Jackson had ever experienced.  He was still young, he knew that. He knew, objectively, that he had a lot of growing up to do yet, but he also knew instinctively that there was something different about the way they all fit together.  Soulmates, Bambam had called them once, and Jackson knew he was right.

So Jackson knew the peace he felt when they were together.  And he knew, maybe even more deeply, the ache he felt when they were apart.  Too much empty space around him, too sudden and disorienting.  Nauseating.  Like he could never quite take a deep enough breath, his head spinning with the lack of it.  And regardless of how many solo schedules he’s had over the years, he found his fingers still shook a little when he would glance over his upcoming itinerary of flight schedules, and tv spots, interviews, team meetings, and performances.  All alone.  All without them.

Well, I may have been a little overly ambitious to think I could keep up with a weekly fic rec.  My apologies to anyone still listening for not being diligent in...anything I do.

In reality my “weekly” rec might not be so “weekly” going forward, but I’ll still be here.  And again, if anyone has any requests (for a specific pairing, etc.), my inbox is always open.

You’ll never forget the first time Jaebeom spread his legs for you.

The waiter nodded and walked away.

“See? Easy,” BamBam said.  

Jaebeom just shook his head and laughed.

They’d managed to get a coveted spot on a terrace, overlooking the Plaça del Sol. It was noisy, tourists and locals slowly filling the plaza below them, and everything was warm and glittering in the orange glow of the Barcelonian sunset.  

Jaebeom loved European evenings. The way even a simple dinner could turn into slow, easy hours over drinks and conversation. He felt himself relax into the pace of it, and he settled into his seat.

They traded casual conversation until their food arrived. BamBam would make an observation about the scenery, or the people below them, and take a picture with the camera he seemed to have on him at all times nowadays, as Jaebeom had his.

Jaebeom watched as he lifted it to his face. Watched the elegant line of his arm, and the curl of his fingers. Everything about him, graceful and fluid, and Jaebeom sometimes couldn’t reconcile the man sitting in front of him now with the tiny kid he’d first met all those years ago.

But for as elegant, and expensive as BamBam appeared on the outside, there was a simplicity to his taste, and his personality that Jaebeom found comfort in.  They were alike in so many ways, and Jaebeom fought the urge to try and impress him when they were together, make him look at him the same way he used to, all wide-eyed and intimidated. He was comforted by the realization that he didn’t have to.

The only thing that impressed BamBam was kindness returned, and of that, Jaebeom had plenty. So at some point he gave up trying to impress BamBam, and decided instead to love him. And, to BamBam’s greatest joy in life, let himself be loved, and spoiled in return.

He looked at their cameras sitting next to each other on the table. BamBam’s, a fancy DSLR thing that could film, or take pictures at the switch of a button; Jaebeom’s, an old-school, single-lens camera, like one his parents had when he was a kid, and he was struck by how fitting it seemed. He knew there was a metaphor in there somewhere. Something poetic he’d write down in his journal later as he laid in bed. But for now he just watched the glow of the setting sun warm BamBam’s skin. Watched the glitter of the lights strung up around the terrace dance in his eyes as they squinted with a laugh. Watched in proud amusement as BamBam paid for their dinner and rose from his seat.

“Let’s take a walk,” he said, and held out his hand.  And Jaebeom was helpless to follow.
