Held in autumn, Hiraoka Shugosai is one of the largest festivals in Osaka. Futon daiko and danjiri floats are carried uphill to the shrine entrance, located at the western foot of Mt. Ikoma. Looking down at the view over the colourfully lit food stalls, the inviting smell of grilled meats and baked sweets blends with the powerful sound of taiko drums, bells and chants, creating a sensational atmosphere.
