why is olruggio lowkey giving prime tarkan 😭
In honor of his anime debut, here's my favorite Olruggio panel of all time:
I love how shirahama gives everyone their own distinct body language
I saw a twitter thread already about how everyone holds their pens a little differently, but I also wanted to point out how certain characters have very specific self-soothing motions or just general body language when they're distressed
I might reblog with some other characters, but I was looking at Olruggio and noticed how he tends to clasp his hands near his collar a lot when feeling distressed/panicked or remembering the Noz incident
Qifrey is such a sweet, kind-hearted child and i don't think thats recognized enough.
Olruggio is kind, almost to a fault, with a strong moral compass (even if those morals don't always align with society at large) but Qifrey... look at his face. He didn't even believe he and Olly were friends, but he was sobbing at the thought of Olly getting hurt because of him. He tried so hard to come across as cold, convinced that his lies would put a large enough wedge between them to finally dislodge olly from his side. so that he would not get hurt. Sweet, sweet boy who doesn't even know when his birthday is. You deserve the word.

it’s so special to me that so much of fan culture is textual analysis for the love of the game. like thank god there are people in my phone who are also thinking about this thing i love so much that they are writing transformative fiction as character studies and setting clips of the show to music with theme-relevant lyrics and writing long text posts analyzing every line of dialogue like!! yay!!!
some WHA stuff
I was feeling agitated and artblocked yesterday so I decided to give my brain a rest by watching TV and then the next thing I knew these were in front of me
I've spoken before on here about Coco and Qifrey's dynamic, but a fascinating part of their dynamic which I think is underappreciated is the way their relationship — and the way others view their dynamic — really speaks to childhood trauma, and the way people tend to view those who have suffered intense trauma (particularly during childhood).
"Hurt people hurt people" is a relatively well known stigmatizing phrase which states that those who suffered some form of abuse or trauma are much more likely to enact that same trauma upon others. "The cycle of abuse" is a misused term which people tend to use in order to state the same thing. Traumatized people are inherently dangerous, and traumatized people *will* end up harming others — particularly children.
These are common stigmas that surround survivors, and they're stigmas we can see reflected in WHA when characters like Olruggio and Beldaruit show concern over Qifrey's relationship with Coco.
What makes their dynamic so special is the fact that, in all honesty, Qifrey is the best person to take care of Coco considering that he's the only person who can truly understand what she's going through.
WHA takes these common sentiments and disproves them. Qifrey's trauma doesn't make him a danger to Coco — his trauma is what allows him to connect with her, and provide her the comfort she truly needs during such a difficult period of her life.
Despite the concerns of those around them, Qifrey's experience with severe childhood trauma surrounding the Brimhats is exactly what has allowed him to help Coco time and time again
It's such a compassionate view of a group of people that are normally dismissed as being inherently dangerous, and I think that's a really important dynamic to have in this series.
ancient peoples loooved a flood narrative it was kinda like their beatles
@solbonbon
Imagining Olruggio doing the "flirt by stealing his hat and wearing it" thing to Qifrey while drunk and the whole time Qifrey is actively having a heart attack
WHA CHAPTER 93 SPOILERS!
'And just like that, you can wipe a person's mind of the memory behind the tears.'
I know he can turn it off and on but there’s still something so funny to me about the idea of Hua Cheng, the walking wind chime, getting jump scared by his stealth lord of a husband. Like Xie Lian is just built to sneak up on him. Cause not only does Hua Cheng have a giant blind spot, Xie Lian’s short king status also puts him outta Hua Cheng’s direct eye-line and he’s been a martial artist since he was like 5. He is now 800, and some change. Like, I know he is silent, and I truly wonder how long it takes Hua Cheng to wonder if he should also decorate his Dianxia in bells so he doesn’t scream and embarrass himself because he keeps getting jump-scared by him.
happy pride month!
so... rereading Qifrey's backstory.... SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT, 87 TO 94
. . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
it's canon that he was an active experiment- yeah? -> like, he was purposefully put in different situations to either distress him or make him feel safe so that the extents of being a silverwood host could be studied. and those studies were written down somewhere
i'm not sure Qifrey was ever genuinely 'rescued' from the Brims
Lestisse was monitoring how Custas took to his roots, that's also canon and it's how they knew what was going on when the tree receded -> following this logic, Ininia is also being monitored- though she seems to be the only one that was ever actively aware of it
with how often the Brims love to hurt and terrorize Qifrey... I think one of 'em might genuinely be monitoring him too in some way- perhaps through his stolen eye
i don't think he ever truly stopped being their original experiment
