“Your father didn’t love you , so you assume no one else would either.”
— Caroline Forbes (via ashesofcaptivity)
From the moment he met Emily, he knew that she was impressionable. There was something so sweet and gentle about her. Like she wanted to always see the best in people. Of course, being the rotten person that he was, Elias decided to turn her into his personal pet project. See just how much he could do to her before she cracked. Before she had no more hope left. Even he had to admit that Emily was not as weak as he originally thought. She had managed to come out the other side of this nightmare more or less unscathed. If Elias had an ounce of empathy or humanity in him he would leave her be. Allow her to find some peace and perhaps someone who could actually love her. But that’s a big if. When her hand touched his shoulder he felt a grin start to creep behind his facial expression, but he fights it. Keeping the facade of a broken man. ❝ But we both know it’s true. I mean, my sister - she hates me so much that she’s punishing me by turning into our mother. I don’t know how to help her anymore. I failed her and - I failed you. ❞ He sniffs again, ❝ and now look at me, I’m fucking crying. ❞ He brings his palms to his face, fingers rubbing his eyeballs so that he can rid himself of the tears that were continuing to pool there. When she asks the question he immediately turns to face her. ❝ No, Em. I want to fix us. I want to come home. ❞
Emily didn’t want to talk about them or how he had taken her already broken heart and smashed it into tinier pieces. He had failed her. Emily’s heart was big, some saw it as a con while others saw it as a pro. She had always tried to find the good in people even when they couldn’t see it themselves. When Emily made a vow or a promise she did everything she could to keep it. Hazel would always be apart of Emily’s family. There’s nothing the younger girl could do or say that would get Emily to think other wise. Family didn’t end with blood and it didn’t start there either. “I don’t think she could ever hate you Elias. No matter how much she tries it’s not possible” She was thinking about her own relationship with her father. “It might feel like like she is, but I don’t think that’s the case. Some people have demons that they just can’t shake. Maybe you have failed her in the past but it’s not too late.” Gently Emily wiped away one of his tears. “I know and you didn’t even cry during Marley and Me.” She joked to make the situation a little lighter. “And how do you suppose we try to fix us?”
“ i guess that’s true . . . ” he doesn’t insist tears his gaze away with a small sigh - he still believes she deserves better - she’d always deserve better than this fucked up town. “ you’ve already been looking ?? ” it comes as a surprise , obvious by the arch of dimitri’s brows. - it makes him wonder why , but the mention of the memories gives it away - a fresh start. it sounds good , knows it’s what she needs , - to get away from the thought of elias. he understands. “ i just - i think it’s strange. that he just shows up unannounced and all . . . it’s the first time he’s done this , right ?? has he - has he been texting you or anything ?? ” maybe he’s overthinking the whole thing . . . worrying too much - “ wait . . . you brought me a milkshake ?? ” face lights up at her words , his grin only widening - “ i mean . . . we can share it - i’m sure a milkshake will cheer you up after all of this. ” and then she’s talking about the movie - giving him that look - puppy eyes , how was he supposed to say no ?? he sighs , shaking his head with a small laugh. “ okay , fine. i’ll watch captain america with you. ” he chuckled. “ are you sure ?? i just - i think this entire thing is just off. him coming over like that and all - i dunno . . . maybe i’m just worrying too much. ” and he gets up , takes off his jacket only to place it down on the bed - hand offered as a grin made its way onto his features. “ let’s watch that movie - we can order a pizza too. ”
“Yes it is and yes I have. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to rent a home or a condo so your thoughts would be very much appreciated. Besides it’s not just my home it’s yours too so I think we should have an equal say on where we live.” She nodes her head at his question. “I’ve seen him in town here and there but we haven’t talked since he moved out. This was the first time something like this has happened.” A smile came onto her features at the grin that seemed to lighten the room. “Yes I did, it’s in the fridge. We don’t need to share I got myself one but mine seems to have somehow disappeared.... strange really.” Which means the empty drink container was in the trash and that Emily had consumed every last drop. “Really!?” She claps her hands excited that he’s finally going to watch some of the Marvel movies. Emily kept her mouth shut about Elias wanting to fix things. Not because she didn’t trust Dimitri the red head was just confused on what she wanted to do. “I’m sure I’m okay especially since you’re here. You worry because you care there’s nothing wrong with that.” She took his hand to help herself stand up. “Movie? Movies Dimitri, movies. With pineapple?”
almost immediately — danny violently pulled away from the young woman, several steps being taken, in an effort to put some space between the two. “you always touch people without askin’ em first, doc?” he questioned, brows arching and something like a sneer on his face. “can’t say that makes for good bedside manner.” he reached around her for the wet rag, wiping away blood from his temple. “yeah, i probably will. but i also know head wounds bleed more because of the veins in the skull; often belying how bad an injury actually is. i got it covered.”
”When they look like they are in your condition yes. My first instinct is to help someone who looks like they need it, but I do apologize if that’s not the case. Ever heard of the saying better to beg for forgiveness than ask permission?“ Emily was a trauma surgeon. If she were to wait around to ask her patients if she could help them they wouldn’t be making it. “Yes it does.”
