Remember?

The sun’s rays beamed through the window, shining a direct light into my face. In the far distance, the all too familiar iPhone jingle began to play, but I did nothing. Just let it ring. Whoever was calling was going to have to call back. The noise subsided and then it was just me. I adjusted myself, looking to find that one comfortable spot and to shield myself from the sun. Sometimes I hated choosing the room with the largest window. The sun was always fucking shining in.

I was almost back in my peaceful slumber, when the phone started ringing again. This time, I lazily reached my arm out, feeling around until I came in contact with the small device and silencing it. Finally, peace and quiet. Turning my head to the left and tucking my right arm under my pillow, I began the slow journey back to sleep. My light snores could be heard throughout the room but that was interrupted by the constant yelling going on in my living room. I tried to tune them out because I wanted, no scratch that. I needed more sleep.

“Y’all need to kill that noise out there!” I yelled with a raspy voice. A nigga was trying to sleep and it sounded like World War III was out there happening. I swear if Julian brought another ghetto broad in here, I was going to beat his ass and then her ratchet hoe ass.

The yelling stopped and it was peaceful once again. That’s all I fuckin wanted. Instead of voices filling the apartment, it was replaced with the shuffling of feet and the slamming of my room door as it was opened.

“CHRISTOPHER MAURICE FUCKIN BROWN!” Her high pitched voice screamed and I had enough.
