today’s funky frog of the day is: nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis! commonly known as the purple frog or the pignose frog, they are endemic to india. they are usually a dark purplish-gray color, and they grow to be about 7 centimeters long in length. these frogs have an unusual call, resembling the sound of a chicken clucking. their flat bodies allow them to cling to rocks and boulders, ensuring they aren’t swept away by the current from the stream banks they live on. they spend most of their lives underground and surface only during the monsoon, for a period of two weeks, for mating. males emerge to call beside temporary rainwater streams, and the female lays up to 3,000 eggs.
