There's a sickness in people that stops them from seeing the truth. Anything you see with love is the truth. The rest is smoke.
The Secret Scripture
“Submission”
When you grow older, you learn silence.
Not silent, do not repress yourself from saying anything.
Silence. silence.
You’re at peace with the reality that you can't change people.
You can only change yourself.

shahani, wake up
shahani, wake up.
SHAHANI, WAKE UP
A letter to the living:
Dearest,
Why is the Woman deemed a public artifact, accessed and consumed by many, while her experiences are hers only and hers alone? Why is it that any action by a woman that indicates her desire to universalize her struggles immediately invalidates those struggles?
“You think too much.” “You don’t respect yourself.” “You’re hurting me.” “You need to relax.” “You’re playing games.” “You feel [insert your self-projection here].” And the rather ambiguous: “You are strange and/or weird.”
You want her to love you but won’t will yourself to believe in her words because you’re convinced that your insecurities preside over hers. And whenever she expresses doubts about her inner being, not because she’s false (au contraire) but because you have successfully alienated her from the unreality you created, she is then expected to bear the brunt of your passive aggression. She is your escape. She is a fleeting memory you come home to when you’re bored and unfulfilled.
Women are cold creatures. Women are preserved corpses. Women are silently moved by your words, your presence, your feelings, your cold hands, warm lips, erect flesh your existence.
She is the object of your desire, and you are the subject of the life you impose upon her. Thus when she says she loves you, you have no other choice but doubt the very same air that exhales from your lungs into her mouth, and from hers into yours.
You take her breath away, crack her ribs open, choke her with the poison you inhale, resuscitate her, and the cycle repeats. No sympathy for the dead, I suppose.
I guess what I’m trying to say is, I struggle telling you the truth because I am branded a woman. But I’ll say it anyway. Cross my heart and hope to die live in freedom: I love you (I think?) only because you’re human. I can only hope that I am, in your eyes, human too.

Reconciling desire with love.
There’s a critical difference between the trajectory of your desire and desire itself. Desire is inherent. It can’t be inhibited, and it should’t be suppressed. But the aims and facilitations of your desire are often always imposed by socialization. You must habitually remember to examine yourself and the basis of your decisions when pursuing the “object(s)” of your affection. The word “object” alone should remind you of the necessity to deconstruct your romantic intentions and/or sexual subconscious. Only then will you discover if your desire is either bonafide or arbitrary. And only then will you learn that your desire has a potential to transform into love.

Because I am a woman.
Re: The unintended/reactionary consequences of patriarchy.
How do I define my womanhood without attaching it to the male gaze? How do I express my resistance against patriarchy without my radical femaleness being solely determined by my opposition against the male oppressors? How do I become a full Wo-man without the ‘man’? How can I exist not as a reaction against male dominance, but as an independent being of my own gender? I’ve existed so long in resistance that I’ve forgotten to live without a heavy heart full of resentment, anger, and false reclamation. Someone please point me to a direction where I can progress from surviving to thriving.

If you’re too mired in darkness, it’s not that I don’t and can’t empathize. I am familiar with the heaviness in your heart, because I still carry the same burden in mine. But I’m not interested in damaged, I’m interested in healing. I’m not interested in meaninglessness, I’m interested in transformation. If you’re not ready to heal by yourself or with me, please know that I’m sending you my love. But I won’t swim in the cold waters with you. I refuse to drown in the abyss again. I’ll be here, onshore, holding and pulling the rope out for you to hold on to. All I can do is plead that you don’t let go of the rope tethering us together. Because I want you here with me. Healing. Basking in the sun. Climbing the mountains.
I love you, but I love myself too.

Re: Vow of Silence
I’ve noticed that people have this constant need for reassurance that my silence is not a consequence of their shortcomings.

The problem is, I tend to question who or what I am whenever someone tries to love me. I am covered in calluses and bruises that I barely recognize the flesh beneath the wounds anymore. And god knows, I try. I try to expose myself, but as soon as I do, my whole body trembles, my eyes sting, and every open sore weeps. Is this healing?

Dear future lover,
When you fall for me, do not hold back.
It needs reminder that in the infinity of time, we are here only for an excruciatingly short second.
I am here. I am here now. Embrace me.
