(note: i’m just making shit up as i go, i’ve never actually been in a space engineering museum and idfk what they would have in there)
- grace bringing his students on a field trip to a space engineering museum
- simon being one of the tour guides and conveniently the only one on that shift—everyone else is already on their lunch break
- grace walking in with his kids, sorting out the tickets and tour guide arrangements and simon behind the reception/front desk
- simon noticing his fox cardigan-sweater, and the glasses that weren’t entirely level on grace’s face. the visitor sticker that said “hello, my name is…” and seeing “mr. grace” written in all small caps handwriting
*i think that grace would absolutely write in that sciency all caps handwriting (i mean it was shown in the movie) but smaller. because science
- also simon peeping the “damn he’s a little older but really cute” (i’m thinking that simon is like. 33-34 ish and grace is around 41 or 42 to make sense for simon being ex military)
- grace, looking at this buff dude with shoulder length hair tied into a half manbun, dark cargo pants, boots. very militaristic style (and grace thinks it looks absolutely attractive)
- grace also noticing the silver nameplate that has “simon” engraved, in red letters
- the tour starts as simon walks the kids around the museum, looking at photos and newspaper clippings about apollo 11 and laika as part of the history aspects of the museum
- grace, with his hands in his pockets, lowkey blushing whenever simon looks back to make sure the kids are still following him
- simon stops at this like. space hull? but cut in half so the kids can climb around in it and have fun (like mcdonalds play place pre-covid)
- simon reaching to give grace a handshake for courtesy and to introduce himself
- grace looking between simon’s hand and his face a good couple of times before actually taking his hand and shaking it
- simon assessing the handshake (why wouldn’t he) and noting the differences between their hands—grace’s being more towards soft, but a decent grip. simon’s being much more calloused and a firm handshake (all those years in the military)
- grace mentioning how much history and space artefacts there are, simon mentioning that he saw a lot more in his days in the military
- grace being lowkey shocked but like. it makes sense yk
- some of the kids noticing them talk and, y’know. kids aren’t stupid. they see mr. grace getting shy and talking to the hot and edgy tour guide and 💡
- the kids pushing to continue the tour, and making grace walk next to simon as he gives more of the tour
- the kids becoming a hivemind and staying a few feet behind the two of them as they end up talking to each other throughout the tour
- simon psyching himself up & at the end of the tour, gives grace his number in the excuse of “if the kids want a better history lesson about space engineering, feel free to reach out”
- one of the kids overhearing and yelling, “CAN MR. SIMON VISIT US IN CLASS??”
- the kids start yelling about how cool it would be if the cool museum tour guide worker guy visited the class and talked about space engineering
- grace sighing and rubbing his face like a tired mom
- looking over at simon with an awkward smile (lowk blushing at the same time but simon chooses not to pay too much attention to what it means) and “i’ll give you a call, haha”
- simon nodding and watching as grace corrals the kids out the door and into the bus. watching as he turns back around and gives a short wave before climbing on the bus, and watching it leave
- and then it really hits simon that this grace guy is kinda cute and he’d just have to hope he calls
- rocky and grace rescue simon on the way to erid, finding the heat signature from simon’s unconscious body
- when grace and rocky get simon on board, grace visibly gags from the amount of blood on him (grace doesn’t mind blood, but that much?? left the bay smelling like sharp copper for days)
- simon being grateful for actual food and water & grace watching him inhale it like a starved dog
- comparing their reasons for being put in space and them both realizing they were their own humanity’s version of a hail mary, but on opposite ends of the spectrum
- being a convicted criminal and forced to go on a suicide mission vs being a loved teacher and scientist and being forced to go on a suicide mission
- grace being a questioning bisexual after seeing simon walk around shirtless for the first time (grace’s ship is so cold compared to the iron lung simon was trapped in)
- simon noticing grace staring and (obliviously) asking if there’s a new scar or bruise that’s appeared
- grace looking away and saying no, glasses strewn across his face. rocky immediately calling his bs with “grace lying. why grace lie, question?”
- being in grace’s mini earth dome and simon immediately falling in love with the colder weather and the water. the sand. the mist. he loves it (and grace)
- simon staring at grace when he talks about some science equation or theory and being so full of adoration (staring like he’s the last star in the sky)
- simon wholeheartedly understanding rocky’s fear of not being watched while sleeping
- simon being knocked out for days once he gets safely on grace’s ship, and rocky and grace getting worried that he doesn’t wake until after the fourth day (my dude is tired)
- simon learning over time how to understand rocky’s language from grace
- grace and simon meeting adrien, and adrien mistaking them as mates/mates-to-be. grace gets flustered about it and simon is awkwardly silent. rocky has to explain to adrien that they aren’t mates (yet)
- rocky asking when grace will talk to simon about being invloved:
grace: there’s no way
rocky: grace stupid. rocky see how simon look at grace when grace not looking. stupid stupid stupid. make move
As someone who has seen both movies, (iron lung three times) here's a few things i see ppl get wrong/ misunderstand:
Simon is missing his left arm, up to the shoulder. Like at the bicep.
Simon is not just a eel, he's fused with the seed and explodes into a tree.
The seed was on the left arm, fused, reversed Pinocchioed him, and got ripped off.
He kills Elli by exploding into a fucking tree.
He met God.
God gave him prophetic visions and fucked him up. Promised Simon would live, and like a Genie, didn't specify how.
Also some time manipulation bullshit was happening.
Homeboy is played by Mark(iplire), who is Korean. (Draw him Korean you cowards /j)
Simon would not necessarily be impressed/ emotinal from looking at stars. In a flashback he's seen stars before, but knows they're ghost light. He would be grateful being able to see them again though.
He WOULD be very emotinal about any plant life. He found a new will to live when he found the little seed. He had a breakdown when the little charm cracked.
His "job" on Eden was to nourish the last tree with the people he killed. Hence his nickname.
There's a lot symbolism regarding trees (the hull window crack)
Simon is resourceful and smart! Like smart smart! Let him be smart woth Rocky and Grace!
Yes, Simon can be aggressive, but is only in situation where his life is threatened. He's also remorseful. He's apologetic and does want to make up for his wrongs, even if it wasn't his fault.
Simon is not religious, but he did meet an eldritch god. He even renounced the religious teaching on Eden. Hated that he didn't get a choice.
Speaking of, he had an Eden tattoo on the left side if his neck, but the COI branded(?) over it
His left eye glows :3
Grace is not a coward.
Like Simon, Grace did not go down without a fight. He ran, yes, but when he was being sedated he shouted how he would sabotage the mission. Do everything he can to make it fail, just so the wouldn't risk putting him on the exhibition.
He was ready to throw hands with Rocky when they first met.
He is incredibly brave. He did a space walk without training. He trusted Rocky that he wouldn't explode in the space bridge. He CLIMBED ON THE BURNING EXTERIOR OF THE HAIL MARY TO RETRIEVE THE COLLECTION DEVICE.
Grace is not a crybaby. He crys for very real, reasonable reasons! When he was betrayed? When they found a solution to save their stars? When Rock gave him a way to return to Earth? It would be weird for him NOT to cry! (Edit: person in the tags you're so right)
He would be scared meeting Simon, but he would not be a coward.
Grace was a middle school science teacher. He was a really good one too. But that also mean he probably was cussed out before. He would not be offended/scared being cursed at. Homeboy was also on a military ship for a good minute. "Swearing like a sailor" is a phrase for a good reason.
He still doesn't curse tho.
They BOTH have a "This is bigger than me" mentality. They both risked everything to ensure the survival of humanity. They were willing to die.
It's not selfish just wanting to live.
I don't think either of them would have a problem doing anything to survive. (Eating the Taumoeba or Me-burgers)
Rocky is NOT Grace's pet! That bitch is a sentient, very intelligent person who saved the Stars!
He's only "naive" because of cultural misunderstandings and language barriers.

Can you imagine being stuck in space completely alone with only the corpses of your friends for company, and the first living thing you meet after 46 years of that misery is a fucking weird alien creature who just rolls up with crazy advanced tech and goes "hi let's work together" and makes it possible for you to save your world through the power of friendship and molecular biology. AND THEN you find out that in this creature's language, its name means "mercy". Happened to my good friend Rocky btw
