Hello. This is Reed Richards. You may know me as Mr Fantastic.
I was told having an easier way to talk to me would help ease some concerns and elate others who would like to meet me.
āNot because itās easy, but because itās hard.ā
"Tony, Reed and I are here to speak to you. Please come out and chat."
Norman whispers, "Alright Reed, okay now talk to him, like we discussed."
@solving-everything
Goddamnit.. told you Iād talk to you later, Normān.
You want Reed tā lead? This outta be good- sorry: Fantastic.
Right! Yes. Ahem.
Hello, Tony. Weāre worried about you, are you drinking? We have reasons to suspect you are⦠and thatās okay. We want to help.
*Looks at @norman-osborn-oscorp-ceo .*
Norman mouths, "Great job" to Reed. And gives him a thumbs up.
"Tony we're concerned, we know how important your sobriety is to you, and we want to help you. But neither one of us can help of you won't speak with us."
@theironcan
..Yeah? You guys practice that pitch in the car before getting here?
ām fine. You two go back to your perfect happy lives and sunshine n rainbows over there. Yeah.
*Reed makes his nose comically large, to enhance his sense of smell, and sniffs.*
Tony I can smell the alcohol in here.
@norman-osborn-oscorp-ceo
"I don't need to make my nose giant to smell the alcohol, Tony you reek of booze. Should we call Pepper? Or your AA sponser? You're obviously struggling with something, talk to us."
@theironcan
*Tony starts to pace around his workshop.*
Okay- Godforbid I have a small drink when Iām stressed! I save the world so- uh.. often! And I canāt have a little thing to myself? Sometimes I just want to let loose, build something, and not be so stressed about everything-
*Tonyās pacing stutters.*
I sound like my dad.
*Reed really does not know what to do, he is out of his element completely. Sure he has parental issues, and who doesnāt, but nothing like Tonyās.*
*Reed looks at @norman-osborn-oscorp-ceo , trying not to look like a confused toddler.*
Norman puts a hand on Reed's shoulder, stepping forward.
"Alcoholism isn't the answer. My father was an alcoholic too, Tony, and I know how that shadow can follow you your whole life. Trust me, my father also affected me deeply; I find it almost impossible to talk about my terrible childhood."
Norman sighs, trying to be as gentle as he can.
"You're stressed and overwhelmed, but keeping it all inside won't help. Don't do this to yourself, please Tony, talk to us."
@theironcan
Cause youāre so perfect nā all knowing. I know ās easy for you to not fall into bad habits but not all of us have that luxury. I donāt know how youāre doing it but yeah itās not that easy.
"Tony, I have aggression issues, night terrors, PTSD, and depression. You want to know why I stay out of trouble? Because I mostly stay in Oscorp in my lab, where I have control."
Norman's tone softens. "I have to avoid fighting or else I find myself triggered by PTSD and I go too far, resorting to too much violence. If I start hitting people, I don't stop; I want to hurt others. The best thing I can do is step away."
Iām glad you got such a good system in place. See when I try to spend my time in my lab, I get told that itās not healthy for me. Because I canāt do anything right anymore.
Not like Iām one of the smartest people on this planet! No I need a baby sitter and interventions and whatever else people try and throw at me.
"It's not a good system. It doesn't solve the underlying problem after all. I'm heavily medicated and I attend therapy twice a week. It's a constant tight rope walk."
"Tony we're trying to understand, trying to help you. But it feels like fight now you'd rather fight. Would hitting me make you feel better?"
IāM- Iām not a tantruming child! Everyone treats me like I am one but Iām not! I just want to be left alone.
"I don't think you're a child. Don't do you actually want us to leave you alone? Is that making you happy?"
I just donāt understand whatās so wrong about having an occasional drink! Everyone does it!
"How many did you have tonight?"
Eh.. like 3? Itās fine. I have rules in place.
Three what? Glasses? Shots? What are your rules?
I have to drink 3 bottles of whiskey back to back to get tipsy. A few weeks ago I drank 5 so I had an excuse to lash out and argue with people I cared about.
3 glasses of 50% ABV Bourbon. Iām not superhuman jeez.
"That's my goddamned point..." Norman grumbles, "that's a lot of alcohol for a normal human being."
Itās fine.
My rules are donāt drink more than 5 glasses, donāt drink when Iām happy, and donāt go to bars.
"What about drinking when you're sad or angry?"
Sometimes I need something to ease the stress. Being a superhero isnāt easy.
"You can talk to us too Tony, talk to your friends, your family, do something a little less... Self destructive."
Eugh Iām fine.
"Well, I'm not fine. I'ma wreck, actually. And I think Reed's stun locked." @solving-everything
ā¦According to the World Health Organization, alcohol consumption is found to play a role in more than 200 diseases, injuries and other health conditions.
This includes an increased risk for conditions such as liver disease, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal inflammation and bleeding, high blood pressure, cardiac arrythmias, cardiomyopathy, myocardial infarction, stroke, alcohol use disorder, peripheral neuropathy, Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, depression, anxiety, and more.
*Glare.*
Reed Iāve died before. Multiple times. I have my mind backed up in 5 different places. Iām not concerned with high blood pressure.
@norman-osborn-oscorp-ceo
... It might have been a mistake to bring Reed.
I've died before too, and honestly, it isn't an experience I want to repeat.
Do you actually want to die, Tony?
Might it have been?
Iāve spent so long waiting for it to happen in my suit, does it really matter what I want in this situation?
Norman pinches the bridge of his nose. "Jesus H. Christ, you're impossible. Oh no, I'm Tony Stark, and I'm having a relapse, and my friends care about me. Even Norman is here trying to convince me to stop being stupid. You're the dumbest man in this room right now, Stark!"
Tony.. youāre one of my closest friends.. weāve been with each other through so much and.. I donāt want to lose you. Weāre both men of science and not many are my intellectual equal, even fewer are willing to put up with me like you do.
I really value that since itās so scarce. Youāve helped advance the scientific community in ways few could dream of. And future generations need you and your mind and if you continue down this path theyāll lose that. Not just some copy of your mind but you.
ā¦How long did you work on that? Very uniquely you.
Since we got in the car.
@norman-osborn-oscorp-ceo
Honestly, well spoken, Reed. And sincere. Alright, let's get Tony sobered up, take a cold shower, and rest, right? @theironcan
Canāt make me do anything.
True but we can encourage you to come with us and eat some burgers and fries at a fast food place. Or do something nicer than... Whatever this is
Hm..
It'll be fun, you can brag to us and I promise I won't be condescending or rude. And Reed will... Well Reed will talk minimally.
@solving-everything
Excessive drinking cost the United States about $249 billion in 2010. This includes: Lost labor and lower worker performance in the workplace, 72%. Property damage, crashes, and criminal justice needs, 17%. And health care costs for injuries, 11%.
(*^ā½^)/ā *āāŖ
Happy Fourth of July!
*Hands you a Cookie Salad*
Thank you!
Can Reed do anything right?
honestly I don't know what I expected
What did I tell you?
YOU'RE SO MUCH WORSE. Can you at least say something like "Tony you're my friend and I like you?" or anything nice?
I can! I just tend to say the wrong thing and I donāt want to mess this up since this is actually important!
... I just lost my temper, so... thanks, Reed
..Iām sorry
DO SOMETHING!
I did!

@theironcan
@norman-osborn-oscorp-ceo
"Tony, Reed and I are here to speak to you. Please come out and chat."
Norman whispers, "Alright Reed, okay now talk to him, like we discussed."
@solving-everything
Goddamnit.. told you Iād talk to you later, Normān.

I'm pretty sure Stark's hiding something; he accuses me of being a villain. Then he gets really agitated when I point out he sounds like he's projecting. After that, he retreated.
I need your help uncovering what his secret problem is.
Are you sure heās not just tired? He can get moody sometimes.
*Not entirely focused on the conversation, body completely stretched all across his lab.*
"Can you... unstretch yourself for a moment?" Norman taps his foot. "Stark's always moody around me; he lied about hearing Pepper calling, and he didn't take the opportunity to brag about his projects. He's definitely having a problem."
Apologies Iām- testing something.
*Reed stretches an eye over, it doesnāt look pleasant but Reed seems entirely unaware this could be off putting. At least Norman knows he has more of Reedās attention than he did.*
Well it sounds like you think you know what the problem is. Though youāre right thatās not like him- well he lies about Pepper calling him all the time but he loves to brag.
Norman stares into Reed's eye. "This is pleasantā¦"
"How long will your testing take? I need your assistance. Tony clearly doesn't want to talk to me, but he might be more open with you. Aren't we supposed to help people? Especially our- okay, seriously, I can't keep doing this. Can you talk to me normally? The way your body is stretching at me feels like I'm in a John Carpenter film."
Norman you have my attention. Iām obviously concerned about Tony. I want to help him but all youāre describing is him being a little off. If thatās all that he was, you wouldnāt have come to me. I want to know your real concern here.
You know Iām not a people person.
*Reed says āobviouslyā like he doesnāt have 10 different arms right now and his eyes are stretched so far apart from each other. He looks almost like a looney toons splat. š«*
"You look like The Thing from John Carpenter's The Thing right now. Here, let me justā¦" He brings up an image on his phone.
āLike this, but with fewer special effects⦠Actually, let me see if I can find a better image.ā Norman is clearly too distracted by Reed's splattered body to concentrate anymore.
*The loudest most dramatic upset sigh ever heard comes from Reed and he puts himself to normal proportions.*
Focus on Tony.
"Wow, I almost forgot you could look human. Thatās much better," Norman smiled. "Tony? Oh, right, yes, Tony." He put his phone back in his pocket. "To put it simply, I think heās drinking again; he has relapsed into alcoholism. During our conversation, he used a lot of AA terminology in his accusations against me and wouldnāt answer directly when I asked him if he was drinking."
*Reedās eyes widen.*
Why didnāt you say that sooner? I wouldāve- focused more on you faster.
*Reed runs a hand through his hair and stretches it, a nervous habit.*
Today would be 790 days. 2 years and 5 months heās been sober. Thatās if he started drinking today this second.. which from the sounds of things heās been drinking. I donāt know what would set him off.
"I was trying to tell you, but you seemed distracted." Norman pretends to stretch. "You understand it's serious, right? I need your help. He won't talk to me, so you need to go talk to him."
I- canāt. Iām not- I donāt talk emotions for a reason, Norman.
I tried last time and I just brought up statistics and eventually he.. well fought me.
"Well hes not talking to me either, what do you propose we do?"
Well clearly he did talk to you.
"No, he didn't talk to me, Reed. He yelled at me, accused me of being a villain, said I was naive, and then, when I tried to get him to talk about his issues, he called his armour and flew away. That's not a conversation Reed. Come with me, tell Tony 'hi I'm worried about you, are you drinking.' And then nod like you're listening and I'll handle the rest."
Well I mean you conversed, words were exchanged, but I understand.
*Deep breath.*
Fine. As long as you can handle the conversation part of it.
"You're the most pedantic person I've ever met." Norman grumbles, "Good, alright I'll call him then, let's do this intervention."
Clearly you have not met Hank McCoy.
I'm pretty sure Stark's hiding something; he accuses me of being a villain. Then he gets really agitated when I point out he sounds like he's projecting. After that, he retreated.
