I've been thinking about Jax from TADC a lot.
They're not a good person. At all. Their actions are terrible, and caused so, so much harm onto others because of their trauma from harming their mother.
Their trauma doesn't justify their actions. That should be so obvious but god almighty some people can be insufferable.
Jax struggled with getting help and outright refused kindness from others. They pushed a friend over the edge and caused irreparable damage around them. They basically caused their best friend to commit suicide and didn't make an effort to change their actions afterwards.
Jax is not a good person, and I genuinely wholeheartedly love that. This is such an interesting cautionary tale, especially when paired with Jax's transness. Oftentimes queerness in certain fandom spaces equates to someone can do no harm and the character at hand should be coddled and protected and babied, but we're as human as anyone else. People fuck up, and they can fuck up big time no matter who they are.
Jax actively hurts people because out of sadism and this utter need to be in control, to be what they perseve to be manly, out of what is very obviously a case of internalized misogyny and transphobia and homophobia.
They become aware of that only after they reached the point of no return, which is essentially suicide.
They didn't own up to their actions, they didn't care about the well being of others, everything they did was a tactic to protect themselves and only themselves, pushing others away out of self preservation.
Obviously they don't wanna hurt. They don't wanna struggle with being trans.
However, there reaches a certain point where you cannot justify your actions because of your trauma. You have to ask for help. It's your own responsibility to reach out and ask for help. It's gonna suck but that first action has to be taken by you and you alone, especially if people are already willing to help. You cannot wallow in your own fears. It will kill you.
I adore Jax's complexity. They're so interesting to me. And I love that they do not come back from abstracting. There are consequences to your actions. You have to make the right choice.
(ALSO I WILL NOT BE DEBATING ABOUT WHETHER JAX'S TRANSNESS IS CANON, IT UNDENIABLY IS, GO BACK TO LITERATURE CLASS AND LEARN ABOUT MEDIA LITERACY YOU ACTUAL FUCKING CINDER BLOCK)
