I’ve been trying to work through the rage in order to be able to post about this. It’s hard to write something up when you’re so pissed off. The above article starts off talking about Fallin’s “gaff.” This was no gaff. Just like her original fake apology after posting photos of herself wearing a Native American war bonnet, touting how much respect she has for Native American religious beliefs and culture, she knew what she was doing was wrong. This was an intentional act. In case you missed it, you can find her “apology” and the circumstances surrounding it here. If you can get past the part where she talks about how she has the utmost respect for Native Americans’ religious beliefs and in the same breath states “If we innocently adorn ourselves in your beautiful things. We do so with the deepest respect. We hold a sincere reverence for and genuine spiritual connection to Native American values.” without throwing up, I tip my hat to you. 

Although I’ve never had an interest in her band Pink Pony, I was a huge fan of The Flaming Lips and it saddened to learn that lead singer Wayne Coyne is whole-heartedly supporting Fallin in her racism posting pictures of his girlfriend, a couple of other losers and a dog in a war bonnet to his instagram in solidarity. This photo has since been removed. I’m not surprised by Fallin’s actions, considering her mother the Governor is a homophobic racist as well, but I never figured you for a racist, Wayne. You turn my stomach and your music has lost all it’s meaning. How can you even sleep at night writing what I once thought of as inspirational lyrics urging people to do good - like “What will you do? With all your power?” -when you are so clearly using yours to oppress people?

Kudos to drummer Kliph Scurlock who spoke out against Fallin at the cost of his job. I know it had to be hard to stand up against someone as powerful as Wayne Coyne. You did the right thing, man.

I've lost a ton of respect for Wayne Coyne ever since the whole glitter incident. And then I lost even more when I realized Kliph had been fired for speaking his mind. These snobby hipster "friends" are just going to leave him behind in the dust and he'll be wondering what the hell just happened, regretting his choices from the past few years. I am glad to see Steven, Kliph, and Michael continue to have a relationship on twitter. Maybe one day Wayne will realize he's not the driving force behind this band- it would no longer be anything without Steven.
