Welcome to my blog (meet the artist) :3
Hi! My name is jess and i am an artist living in aotearoa with my partner and our sweet cat. I’ve stopped posting on social media for a long time (and let’s face it i was never trying to be an influencer) but I’m starting this blog to try and have a place to share and document my work and engage with other creatives. I’d really like to earnestly post on here (maybe even get daily posts going ?!) and be able to have some interspersed journal posts as well! My art practice is very focused on the observation, documentation, and archiving of the world around us so it would be great to have this all in one place (even if I struggle a lot with digital media lol). This also seems a little more engaging than my website which has fallen into the void.
My art practice began with photography, and I have 12 years experience shooting film. But these days I occupy myself more with making things (namely zines) out of found materials, textile and fiber arts, illustration, and painting. I like to do pretty much anything and love being occupied by fixing things or making them. I love to say making things is just fixing the stuff you haven’t broke yet. I have a history of doing tattoo designs and writing poems so they may find their way here too.
Outside of art I love being outdoors, foraging, hiking, and camping. I love to cook and bake and keep my hands busy, I’m super interested in botany, permaculture, and the environment and it often finds its way into the projects I take on. I’m chronically ill and trans which can become key elements to the work I make.
