Eusociality: A Benny/Brady Cicada Fic. CH 3/???

Johnny grins, looking down. Fiddles with his lighter for a moment before he nods his head. Benny's bite was exhilarating as his easygoing kindness. The strange cockiness that felt more suited to John or Curt or someone else with sand in their boots than a scientist. Johnny hasn't been cocky since he'd cried while they'd put his face back together. He could see Benny eyeing the scar as they walk, curious observation, rather than ghoulish fascination.

"Happened in the crash," Johnny says next time he takes the cigarette from his mouth to tap away the ash. "Twenty-two stitches."

"You hate it?"

"Sometimes. People used to stare a lot more when it was fresh."

"Anyone pull the 'scars are sexy' bit on you?"

"A nurse," Johnny grins around his cigarette. "In Germany, after they lifted us out."

Benny walks in a straight line, and Johnny, used to the ambling nature of John, finds their elbows brushing with frequency, the sensory feeling of Benny's light windbreaker scraping against Johnny's bare arm sending goosebumps flowing across his body like waves. "Worst scar I ever got was a dog bite on my calf."

"Did you deserve it?"

"Probably. Was hopping fences trying to avoid going to my brother's baby shower."
