Hey Imma yap in the format of an open letter to dads.
I watched Connor's new video about his and Troye's former relationship, and how it made me feel about Dan and Phil follows;
Dan and Phil are absolutely right when they say they don’t want to share personal things, because once you open that door, people expect more over time. The Connor and Troye situation is a perfect example: even years after their relationship ended, they still find themselves giving explanations about their past. It’s not that they have to, but the fact that people ask shows exactly why Dan and Phil set that boundary.
The truth is, they don’t even need a reason not to share — choosing privacy is valid on its own. But in their case, the reasoning is actually very strong. On the internet, especially when you’re as big as Dan and Phil, once you share something, it’s permanent. Years later, someone can bring it up again — through a post, a mention, or simply because something resurfaces — and suddenly the questions start all over. It’s too big a commitment to make, and they are absolutely right to protect themselves from that.
And there’s another layer to it: sharing something after years of speculation is far harder than sharing it naturally as it happens. When things are shared gradually, they unfold in a way that feels organic. But when something has been hidden for so long, revealing it later feels unnatural and carries much more weight — it’s harder emotionally, and harder in terms of how people react.
Something like that also requires enormous trust in their fandom. They would need a strong sense of how their audience thinks, so they could at least anticipate the reaction and how long it might linger.
Considering their latest events and the things they’ve said about us as a fandom it does feel like they’re reaching a point of greater trust. Maybe not complete trust, but at least more than they had before. And given the fact that they experienced real trauma surrounding their fandom in the past, they’ve always had every right to withhold. But now, it seems like they might finally be reaching a place where they feel ready.
If they ever decide to share more one day, I hope we don't fuck this up as a fandom. I will personally try my best not to.
To wrap up, I hope whatever they decide to do brings them happiness and peace. As long as they're happy, I'm okay with not knowing.
(But I'm not okay with queerbating and clickbait, quit that shit if you're not gonna hard launch, reciprocal respect you twats. Love you tho. Lots.) 🖤💙 @danielhowell @amazingphil
