Hehe yeah, Communications Director Minkowski is a beloved aspect of postcanon to me + the friends who we developed this idea together. Minkowski dragging her surviving bedraggled crew back to Earth and immediately having an all new set of problems.
Minkowski killed Cutter to get him to stop. Stop hurting Lovelace with psi-waves, stop him from shooting her and her crew, and also stop his grand plan to hold the whole of humanity hostage in his bid for alien immortality. She wasnât even aiming for the job. And unlike with Rachel, Cutter had written off Minkowski as fundamentally not anyone important⌠which is why he wasnât ever expecting a harpoon in his back.
The problem with being treated as fundamentally not anyone important is that the higher-ups at Goddard arenât thrilled about taking orders from her either, and remember, the rule that if you kill the Communications Director you get the Communications Director job is still in place!
There are undeniably positives: as Comms Director, Minkowski is in a perfect position to support Lovelace in her goal of burning Goddard Futuristics to the ground. Hiring Lovelace on as Director of Special Projects and letting her go ham on Goddardâs secrets. She can also turn all of Goddardâs internal records over to her husband the investigative reporter and go, have fun babe (he has been spending the last two years ALSO trying to tear Goddard to the ground). Contacting every ship and station Goddard has out there like okay, how many of you are increasingly convinced youâve been abandoned to die in space and if so do you want a rescue ship right now because I can send a rescue ship right now. She is the legal owner of Hera (uncomfortable) and, sort of, Eiffel (what the fuck) which while messed up means she doesnât have to hand them back over to Goddard to do what they want with them while she figures out what AI rights are going to look like. (Solving prisonersâ rights is⌠a bigger task.) This is probably the primary reason she accepts the jobâotherwise, sheâd have next to no legal capacity to protect her people while the lawsuits drag out. This DOES mean collaborating with Miranda, who is getting her own patchy memory returning arc alongside Eiffel, and Minkowski is noooot thrilled about this one but it means she has one single insider ally if she can make herself be nice.
Because the Goddard insiders are, to put it lightly, NOT happy with these changes around here! And they have a culture of disposing of problems.
