In depth analysis of Komaeda Nagito's "luck"
Honestly this feels pretty outdated but I'm still gonna post it anyway just because I can and because I absolutely love Komaeda as well as analysing his "luck".
Note: this is all theory and speculation and I'm not 100% right about everything but this is the best that I can come up with.
Enjoy.
Komaeda Nagito: Ultimate Curse
To be honest, I don't even think "luck" describes his life in the slightest.
Let me explain.
Throughout his entire life, Komaeda has been experiencing disastrous misfortune for every second that he lives. According to him, his "bad luck" started off ever since he was born with multiple unknown fatal chronic illnesses. (or something along those lines) But 'omg thank the gods' because it turns out that his "luck" was able to prevent those fatal illnesses from actually killing him.
Lucky huh?
Ohhh what about, sometime during his childhood, when he used to own a dog which later died from a truck accident (DAMN YOU TRUCK-KUN!) and the lucky part? He gets to see his dead dog again when Akane decided to almost strangle him to death. (It took about 10 years for that to take effect but that's not the important part)
Now, this is where the real fun begins.
Starting from the most popular one where Komaeda and his parents are on a plane (on their way back from holiday) and their plane gets hijacked, which resulted in his parents being killed right in front of him. What does he get in return? A miraculous falling meteor that can aim along with inherited wealth.
And then he gets kidnapped by a fucking serial killer sometime during middle school. Killer wanted ransom but realised no one could pay for it.
Komaeda walks away harm-freaking-free and rich aS FUC— ok I need to calm down. He found a winning lottery ticket in the bag he was kidnapped in.
Now, what am I trying to get at here? Why list all these events down?
Well, all those "lucky" comebacks are all bullshit. From the moment Komaeda Nagito breathed his first breath, he was afflicted by a curse.
Think about it, for every single situation, Komaeda *always* experiences misfortune firsthand before he gets the "lucky" part of it. Adding to that, had he not experience the unfortunate part, he wouldn't even need to acquire the lucky part of it. In fact, it almost feels as if his luck is just a compensation for his misfortune.
Fatal illness gone? Komaeda is healthy.
Dog didn't die from a truck accident? Komaeda doesn't get traumatised and heartbroken.
Hijackers didn't hijack the plane? Parents wouldn't get killed.
Parents doesn't get killed? Precise falling meteor doesn't fall (probably)
Kidnapper doesn't kidnap him? Would've been living a fantastic trauma free fucking life.
In conclusion, all I'm saying is that Komaeda wouldn't have been a cynical depressed shit if he hadn't gotten this cursed of a life.
