Sophie Turner herself was first “informed” of the change from the books, which involved her character now being raped, as part of a joke that director Alex Graves made at her expense during filming of Season 4. As Turner explained in an interview with Entertainment Weekly a day after this wedding night scene aired: “Last season [Thrones director] Alex Graves decided to give me hints. He was saying, ‘You get a love interest next season.’ And I was all, ‘I actually get a love interest!’ ” – Apparently Turner assumed they meant they were going to cast Harrold Hardyng for Sansa’s Vale storyarc in Season 5, to be her handsome and noble love interest as he was in the novels. Seventeen years had come and gone since the Battle of the Bells, yet the sound of bells ringing still tied a knot in his guts. Others might claim that the realm was lost when Prince Rhaegar fell to Robert’s warhammer on the Trident, but the Battle of the Trident would never have been fought if the griffin had only slain the stag there in Stoney Sept. Sansa started out her life as a noble lady in a grand castle, on the path to becoming queen. She was loved and supported by her family in this endeavor and supported in every aspect of who she was as a lady. Her beauty and skills were constantly praised. She was everything her family wanted her to be. Now she’s finishing the series as a queen in a grand castle, exactly like she always wanted.

I keep seeing posts talking about how she’s ~proven everyone wrong~ to come out on top and how she’s grown into such a strong woman but ????. To use the now infamous term, how does this ~subvert~ anything? How does it challenge any part of her character? She has survived an incredible amount of hardships, it’s true, but she’s back at square one now. The only difference being that she’s queen in her own right, rather than being wife to a king. 

But Sansa in the books saw why wanting to be queen was a mistake. She learned that it wasn’t the ideal she’d thought it would be. She discovered the truth of what it took to have that power and she wanted something else. She wanted to be loved, to have children, to go home, to be with her family.

And show Sansa? She has none of that now. She’s learned absolutely nothing and, in fact, has BECOME Cersei. She’s completely alone with her family having abandoned her. And she’s not queen because the North loves her, she’s queen because she was their last resort and because her treachery cost her everything.

That coronation and this entire ending for Sansa is completely hollow.
