How does abuse function as a model of politics for Trump and his millions of followers?
Well, here it is. I'm not the first person to make this observation, but I believe Trumpism/MAGA can best be understood as abuse functioning as a model of politics, and this could make things much easier to understand for people who experienced abuse and feel like Trump's presidency is eerily similar to what they've gone through, and for people still wondering, "Oh my god, how could people still support Trump? How could he be so constantly terrible? What is wrong with these people and what are they getting out of this?"
This is not a short or lighthearted read (and it wasn't really lighthearted to write either, honestly), but I tried my best to organize my thoughts. I think a lot more could be written on this topic than this single piece, too, so this is by no means everything there is to say about this, but I tried to condense everything into a single essay that wasn't like, novella-length lol, so I couldnât go into detail over every little thing. Please be nice in your feedback.
I'm going to tag folks under the cut who said they wanted to be notified once this was published:
