"Stranded on the Moon, High on Blur, and Watching World War 3 Destroy the Earth"
Funding for the International Moon Base had hit an all-time low.
Though it was long his childhood dream to live upon the moon, the missions have become longer, rations and supplies scarcer, and a quirk in the rotations schedule has left him alone upon the moon for the last 8 months.
He’s now nothing more than a glorified caretaker of an expensive relic that no one wants to pay for.
To pass the time, he has developed a strong addiction to “Blur”— an opiate-like hallucinogen administered through an eye dropper that creates warm soothing visions for hours a dose.
He rationalizes his addiction by telling himself that the drug causes him to breath less of the air supply, and eat less food… which are both true, but only helps obscure the lie.
Month after month, the scheduled date to bring him back to Earth is pushed out further into the future as a tense political climate back home has made him a low priority. 8 months in solitude on the moon become 12, and then 16. In month 18, World War 3 erupts across the globe.
He watches the bombs destroy everything he once loved all through the blissful haze of Blur induced visions. The indescribable mix of sheer horror and pleasure will haunt him for the rest of his days.
By month 34, he is the last human in the galaxy.

Camp Crazy
I worked at a Christian holiday camp called Teen Ranch as a cabin leader for a week. It was intense. It was wonderful. I'm in love with it as a job.
Next holiday that works out, I am returning.
Seeing God work in peoples lives like that was just... great.

While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, an officer was interrupted by a little boy about six years old. Looking up and down at his uniform, he asked, “Are you a cop?”
“Yes,” he replied and continued writing the report. “My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?” “Yes, that’s right,” he told him. “Well, then,” he said as he extended his foot towards the officer, “would you please tie my shoe?”
Dear 2012,
Ever optimistic, I expected great things from you. I understand now just how much you disliked that. I know I can't take how I treated you back, but I'm still optimistic and hope that it has taught me how to treat the next year a little better.
Angsty, at first you twisted and turned as if making ready to spit me out. You grew ever more wild by the day until I was thrown from some silly pedestal I had unwittingly climbed onto. Humble. I had always hoped that was something I could call myself. It wasn't long before I befriended only ruffian birds and had my best rest, lonely, to the beat of train-track rhythms.
From there, I took a different path to the one I had earlier been admiring and I have not looked back even once. I have never aspired to become a pillar of salt.
I have grown more into myself, and formed a deeper relationship with God. It's funny to see how things I thought would have been good for me would have torn me down. Hindsight is just one of those things. It's good to see that the unexpected can heal old wounds and have helped me to repair some of my broken down communication lines. I still need to build on my relational skills, but to do that I needed to mend myself a little first. That's on it's way. My priorities are straightened and my heart is still in the right place. I'm working to be more like what I want to be. It's a pretty nice place to sit and think a while.
Everyone likes to believe that they are special.
We are. We aren't. It's somewhat complicated.
Something that you learn a little more of every year.
Oh, 2012 you were a good year for that. Thank you.
Candy Chang - I Wish This Was (2010)
“I Wish This Was was inspired by vacant storefronts. There are many where Candy lives in New Orleans. There are also many people who need and want things. Who knows a place better than the people who live and work there? We know what businesses and services we need, and we know what would make our neighborhoods more ours. What if we could easily voice what we want, where we want it?
As an experiment, Candy created fill-in-the-blank stickers that say ‘I wish this was ____.’ She placed boxes of free stickers in businesses around the city and posted grids of blank stickers and a permanent marker on vacant storefronts, so anyone walking by could fill one out. Responses ranged from the functional to the poetic, reflecting the hopes, dreams, and colorful imaginations of different neighborhoods.”
Elia Fernandez - My Astronaut (2012)
I heard today that rice has double the amount of genes to humans. Twice as many factors that grow it into its final form. It isn’t doubly as detailed as us though, right? Because what else is it supposed to mean? Is it conscious of self? Does it worship the sun? Can it feel lonely? Does it love? Where else could all of those extra bits go? Honestly, sometimes science makes no sense at all.
