3000. Thatâs crazy.
Iâve been fighting with one arm tied behind my back, but what happens when Iâm finally set free?
On December 31, 2014, a taxicab traveled through San Francisco, from Chinatown to Marin. The car carried a single passenger: a woman, her birth name Adaline Bowman, current alias Jennifer Larson. This is the first and last chapter of her story.

Look at me, I practically grew up here. And youâre right, itâs hurt me. In ways Iâll probably never get over. I have a lot of memories of people. People Iâve lost forever. But I have a lot of other memories too. This is the place where I fell in love, the place where I found my family. This is where I learned to be a doctor. Where I learned how to take responsibility for someone elseâs life, and itâs the place I met you. So I figure this place has given me as much as itâs taken from me. Iâve lived here as much as Iâve survived here, it just depends on how I look at it.
Well, get me out of this one. I canât. Get me out! I canât. What?
âMy husband had a sudden heart attack a few months ago. It was just a few blocks from here. They called me in to identify his body and then just let me walk right out onto 7th Avenue. I felt so lost. My friends were wonderful and supportive but eventually everyone moves on with their lives. I donât have children. And Iâm not a workaholic. So I was left with this intense loneliness and void. I couldnât eat. I couldnât sleep. Then one day I started researching dogs that are good for grief and depression. And âpoodleâ kept popping up. But when I went to the rescue fair, all the poodles were gone. There was this one old dog in the back that nobody was looking at. She was skin and bones. She was trembling and scared and mucus was running out of her eyes. She seemed so fragile. She reminded me of myself. I named her Grace because I think my husband sent her to me. Sheâs my first dog. Sheâs been pure joy. We spend all our time together. Sheâs gained her weight back. She comes with me to therapy. Weâre getting better together.â
Sometimes you donât see that the best thing thatâs ever happened to you is sitting there, right under your nose. But thatâs fine too, it really is. Because Iâve realized that no matter where you are, or what youâre doing, or who youâre with, I will always, honestly, truly, completely, love you.

Depression and Anxiety is like radiation. Thereâs always a little bit of it in the background but not enough to kill you. Then once in a while you get a free trip to Chernobyl.
I never really knew pain until I felt you lose interest in me.
Iâm sorry I wasnât enough. (via written-on-polaroids)
