as somebody who’s grown very much attached to the man from the shadow I feel distraught and disappointed by the direction of the lore it has currently. granted I can’t speak russian and I can’t trust google translate to be accurate but from what I’ve read myself about his lore as well as hearing it from other people discussing it, I feel very conflicted about it
let me be clear, I do believe that his lore, for being a wip/draft or whatever, is actually pretty solid and well written. it’s not the fact that he’s a bad person that’s done really bad things that’s the problem. at the end of the day he’s a horror character and thus his lore reflects on that, being equally dark and traumatic and heavy. the problem is the way it’s portrayed both in game and outside of it.
I’m certain most people, like almost everyone I know, on tumblr, twitter, tiktok, everywhere, has always gotten the impression that August has a romantic connection with the player, specifically from the “Do you still love me?” “It will be pleasant” lines he has in game and more. There was even an instance where Danila replied to a russian comment asking what August’s reaction would be to The Knocker and The Obsessed, two other mods famously romanticized as well, and Danila said that August would feel jealous, yet again reaffirming the possible romantic relationship between him and the player.
many people created artworks and depictions of him in romantic situations with either the player or people’s ocs whom would also be the player in that scenario. myself included, I’ve made many artworks of my selfship with August
Danila has continuously encouraged this by reposting a lot of romantic art of August, you could argue that he’s not encouraging the romanticization of August but he simply encourages fanart for his character, which sure, does make sense, but that’s not the impression a lot of people have gotten, many people, myself included again, took this as a sign that Danila approving of his character being romanticized means that there is actually some romance involved. I could be wrong, but I’ve personally never seen him correct anybody about the relationship that August actually has with the player, with him being a predator and the player being his victim.
From what I’ve heard Danila has been reworking on the lore, if anyone has anymore info I’d greatly appreciate hearing them, but I sincerely hope that they address that portion of his lore more publicly or change it entirely and get rid of it. you can still write a traumatic and heavy character lore without child sexual abuse being involved.
I did a little bit more digging last night to find anything more about this, discussions people were having about the lore in the telegram, apparently the reason Danila hasn’t announced anything about August’s lore is because it was still a wip, and that lore was written with the help of someone who, both from what I’ve personally seen as well as what people said about them in gc, was kind of a jerk and had gotten into an argument with Danila and never talked again, thus Danila is rewriting the lore so that it’s not associated with his previous writer I’m assuming
also I’ve been told by someone that they did some researching and apparently CSA and grooming and topics alike are against curseforge and minecraft’s TOS anyway even if it’s outside the game itself. Danila has also stated a few times that he wants to do story chapters for the mod which would make it impossible to include those aspects anyway, so I’m hoping things change for the better because if not I’m certain the mod will be taken down
I feel a bit more at ease knowing this now and I think I can still enjoy him all the same and hope to see changes being implemented. new content is coming also from that new teaser Danila posted a couple days ago, meaning the lore change is potentially happening way sooner than we think

Lightly based off of my own interpretation of the Obsessed for an AU I'm writing

Between the shadows that truly lingered sat the spider, eight back legs on full display as he stared from afar. He was pissed. That's obvious. The newcomer wasn’t sticking to its routine anymore: they stopped closing the door, they kept going outside for longer periods — death wish much? (Or maybe a sign? Searching for him?) With all the danger in this world, some sort of accident was bound to occur again. Whatever, he needs his obsession to stay safe and where he can see it.
That thought prompted him to creep closer towards the house. By all means, the human should be inside, but if not, something must be done.
The torches inside were still glowing, burning brightly like always, as could be seen from the windows. The house's size made it easy to tell nobody was home. The dust had settled, nothing but the crackling of firelight.
Nobody was home.
No, no no, why did it leave again? How could it leave again? What’s so important to do that it warrants leaving again? It felt like betrayal, cold and harsh, brutal and unforgiving. A chill climbed up the spider's spine, legs twitching, chelicerae jittering, thoughts and emotions spinning, a familiar feeling of desperation. Where is it? It couldn't have left me, right? His body twisted on impulse, turning around, looking for any sign of the human, any possible lead. Instinct acted before thought. It scanned every direction, every hint of movement, blades of grass, animals — the last he saw of his beloved it'd been eyeing a pig that had been silently picking at a patch of potato, was that what happened?, what did the pig do to it? Filthy, disgusting, what could the human possibly see in these repulsive creatures? Digging, dirtying themselves for nothing all day. Repulsive, horrible creatures. Unworthy of the human's attention. Simply hideous. Before he knew it, he'd find himself already holding the pig's disfigured head. Good. One less in the way, he scoffed, spitting on the corpse. It's not worth eating such a vile waste of air.
The rest of the field's fauna had already run off in panic from their brethren's horrified squeals, so the arachnomorph didn't find any worth in chasing after them. It was and always had been the human, their dear heartthrob, that mattered, not the blood. Red has always been a beautiful color anyway.
The anxiety didn't stop; his heart had reached his throat where every beat felt faster than the former, bleeding almost, aching to find their most important possession. He knew he'd find it, but the thought of being without it was driving him insane. It's gotta be around here somewhere. Not like it ran away. It's just testing me. A test of love. A smile arose beneath all the fear (or maybe rage?) The thought brings him some temporary comfort.
After what felt like an eternity of bitter silence, he stopped running to listen for a bit; the constant interruptions of the grass crumple underneath his feet was frustrating him even further.
Then he heard something.
He thought he was making it up at first but no, it was real. Soft, gentle sobs. Muffled. His gaze darted around to discern the source of it, eventually landing on a direction and walking cautiously towards it.
Is it them?
He'd entered the forest now, peeking behind every tree, trying to make sense of the sound. If it is the human, why would they be crying? It must've gotten lost, poor thing. He would take it back home. Back to safety. Maybe back to his den? No, that’s too quick, he can't be going that fast. He understands it the same way it understands him, so he knows not to get ahead of himself. Mostly.
The spider froze. The world almost seemed to take on a slightly rosy hue as he finally caught a glimpse of them, the one person who knew him best. Everything else blurred. All he could focus on was this divine gift now in front of him once more. If only it had a name that he could cherish.
It did seem to be crying. A swan's tears, graceful and uniquely melancholic. A strange sense of giddiness overtook him; he didn't really know why. What he did know is that this was his chance. It was his one chance to comfort the human, maybe get to know it better, so they'll become even better friends! Maybe it'll start making some moves first, of course, since he knew the human obviously reciprocates. Maybe it'll finally smile again, like it did that night. Sweet memories were already stuffing his brain, the way it saved him that fateful night. It was fate; there was no other explanation.
Enough of that, it's crying.
He approached the weeping human, sat elegantly on a piece of stone. (Gosh, it must be cold. His den is much warmer.) Subconsciously, he searched for a branch on the ground, something to step on to make his presence known more naturally. This encounter had to be perfect. No threat. No danger. Just the two of them. He can make it if he tries hard enough!
And so, the snap on the ground marked the beginning of his next play.
The human turned its head, surprised if anything, not fearful. Which was intended. Its big, yellow eyes were now staring directly at him.
“Lbm.”
The human used that word often, but the arachnid never really knew what it meant. Sometimes an insult, sometimes not, judging by the tone. The only reply he could give that felt logical was a small chitter and a tilt of the head. Confusion.
Its answer was a quick laugh. It was off, though; possibly strained? Forced? Why is it fake laughing around him? No, no, it must be from crying earlier. Looking closer, he could very clearly see the glimmer of tears in its eyes, still delicately pouring down its cheeks. That must be it.
While the human was still watching, he started to approach. Soon enough, the both of them sat next to each other. The human kept its rock that it apparently liked sitting on so much, and the spider was satisfied with sitting on grass. Quality time together, maybe that's what it wants!, he thought, peeking a smile.
“V zvff gur qnlgvzr.” it muttered, glancing to the sky. Gibberish. As always. But that’s fine. It's the emotion that counts. He stared at the sky too, hoping to connect further with his one and only human. Fake it ‘till you make it or you'll break it, right?
He'd find himself staring at his human, though. The stars were glowing brighter now, but none as bright as the human's eyes. Eyes so innocent, so childlike. He knew he'd have to protect the light in those eyes.
He also caught a sniff of cooked meat.
As if sensing the spider's interest, the human immediately took notice and tossed him a slice of mutton.
“Nvvk!!” He grabbed the piece and bit into it. Maybe he was wrong, but that word meant he was happy. Good enough.
I could get used to this.

As guessed by the lovely commenter, he IS mean about it! He likes to tease you on your neck fluff, and how your wings instinctually flutter to try to scare him off. Despite his behavior, he's actually very intrigued by your hands, and legs. They're coated with hard chitin, cold to the touch. He has definitely used your wings as a blanket, when you're asleep and don't know he's there. (Homeless mfer) You've probably also cozied up to him before purely for the body warmth, especially if it's a colder day.
Obsessive;
Now this is the one I was most excited about. He is absolutely infatuated with you, for every reason in the book. You're not quite prey, but not a predator either. You're a human moth... He doesn't know how to respond. He'll follow you from afar for a long time, but he will inspect you in the night. Hopefully, you quickly learn how to steady yourself when startled. Showing a slither of fear will lead to your death. He could easily bite you and drain you of your haemolymph (blood). If you stand your ground though, he will decide that you are equals. Out of all of them, he's probably the best if you're partially insectoid. They're a little more gentle with you because of the wings, but besides that, they have a genuine respect for you. You both don't speak often, but you understand eachother perfectly without words. In body language, trills, even blinking. Plus, as a moth, you can release pheromones that share what you're feeling, and spiders do the same. You're both practically perfect for eachother. Oh and you'd totally pick up and fly with him- He'd find it absolutely terrifying though. He doesn't like heights. He really likes when you try to show dominance in your own way. (Clicking, chirping, fluttering your wings to show off the colours.) But it's cuter when you attempt to do it his way- Trying to make yourself big and scary. (Sometimes, it actually works on him. Your wings would have to be a little larger than your full body in order to take flight, so lifting them would actually work to make you nearly bigger than him, and it startles him. Especially if your wings are furled most of the time.)
August;
Unlike obsessive, he actually sees you as lesser than him. It won't be completely obvious, but you can still tell from the way he carries himself around you. Completely relaxed, barely seeing you as a threat. He IS endeared with your anatomy though- He's seen tons of humans, obviously, but never something like you. He's so curious in fact, he doesn't stab you if you just stay still, and let him examine you. Usually this gives you enough time to take your meds, and for him to disappear. Either that, or he just decides to stab you and follow you down by the trail of blood. However, he doesn't like that your blood is green. One of the main reasons he kills, is because of the addictive colour. (That, and he's an anxious wreck.) He can't deny that he loves your soft fur though, he's all over you. Constantly touching your neck, wings, back, anywhere with the fluff. He also takes advantage of your antennae, which are so sensitive, they can pick up even the slightest change in the wind. He just blows on them or runs his hands along them, and it almost immediately has you overstimulated. Not fun. Even worse if you moan while he does it.
