@why-animals-do-the-thing can you guys explain (or have you guys explained) what’s actually going on here?  This is one of my favourite videos but I’ve always been curious.

This looks to me like sort of a ritualized or stereotyped play-fight - like the cats have lazily batted at each other so many times that it’s turned into this pattern of similar pawing behavior. It doesn’t look cued - you can see the one cat stopping, giving appeasement signals, and then re-engaging. It takes them a while to get back into the pattern, too. If we could see the people, we’d know more about if this was capture and put on cue, but it looks more like just a habit the cats have gotten into on their own that people think is hilarious to do voiceovers for.
