Hey everyone, it’s moments has arrived to reveal the prompts for the 2022 LB;MR Week!! I can’t believe it’s been four years!!

A catch up for those who haven’t heard of the bash or forgot, it’s a fan week celebrating the anniversary of the mystery game Layton Brothers;Mystery Room. Prompts are given that fans can use to make content for the small fandom. This year, the week will run from Sunday, September 25th to Saturday, October 1st

This year, each prompt is inspired by seven of the ten cases in the game. No need to participate in the whole week or use the exact prompts, it’s just about celebrating the game!

imagine you start watching this new show and it’s a silly little show about space set in the future then they announce the next season so you wait excitedly for five months and finally it’s here… you all sit round the tv and suddenly one of the main characters who is known for being unemotional starts going mad because of “biology…” and you slowly realise that he needs to have sex or he’s going to die so the other main character risks his entire career to help him out then they start ‘wrestling’ on the sand and the one going through the mating fever ends up killing the other guy which ends the fever but now he’s depressed because he just killed his best friend but wait he’s not actually dead the unemotional one is overjoyed everything’s fine and then they go back to work like nothing happened… you look at everyone else sitting in stunned silence thinking “did any one else think that was a little… yknow” then you accidentally start modern fandom and shipping culture

I have a question, and I am really honest, I'm not trying to start anything bad: why being an Harry Potter fan is bad? I am perfectly aware of the fact that JKR is a TERF, but among her fans (in my life, I mean) I see almost always queer people (very pissed off with JKR and very vocal about it), including trans people. Maybe it depends of where I live, or maybe it's a thing online, but I really don't understand why liking Harry Potter it's the same of being a TERF 🤔 I apologize if I come across as disrespectful or, well, dumb 😅

JKR actively funds campaigns for anti-trans legislation in the UK and is the leading face of active transphobia. This isn't like Lovecraft where he's dead and therefore can't benefit from his work. Every dollar you spend on merch supports her and her campaigns, every seat you fill in the theater is a data number showing how much support her work has. Every fanblog gushing about her is giving her free publicity and sending the message that it's okay for other people to publicly support her as well. (Also the books are not clean of her bigotry. Pikachu could have written Harry Potter and it would still have issues with racism/transphobia/antisemitism.)

So it's not saying you are a TERF, per se. It's just saying that you don't care enough about the harm JKR causes as a loudly transphobic/antisemitic/racist politically active billionaire to read another book.

Also, at this point, considering the subject matter of the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy game and of the recent films, continuing to support or circulate Harry Potter related media in any way is to actively promote violent antisemetic rhetoric. It’s not just passively financially supporting a TERF anymore- the continuing Harry Potter franchise beyond the books and as disconnected from JK Rowlings influence as it can be is actual antisemetic propaganda. By continuing to engage with Harry Potter you are consuming antisemetic propaganda. By posting about Harry Potter or streaming yourself playing the games ect you are actively spreading antisemetic propaganda.

This is not something you can ignore. This is not “well goblins are based on an antisemetic stereotype so anything that contains goblins is antisemetic.” The way goblins are portrayed in the books is mildly questionable, probably unintentional on JK’s part, and are more important to a wider conversation about the prevalence of these tropes in fantasy than they are a strong example of it. The movies unfortunately doubled down on the jewish stereotypes associated with goblins in a move that was definitely intentional on the part of some of the creature, costume, and set designers at the very least, and they were rightfully called out for that. Hogwarts Legacy saw that criticism and decided to double down further by turning actual historical propaganda against jewish people into the plot of their game. From controlling the banks to actual Blood Libel, the goblins in this game are an intentional hateful caricature of jewish people. The films also get up to some pretty heinous antisemetism without any goblins involved at all, just in case you thought maybe this was just a dreadful mishandling of a single fantasy race. Sorry, no, it’s a running theme.

It’s not just subtext anymore, it’s not something you can handwave as only being there if you look for it. It’s straight up nazi propaganda at this point.

I grew up with Harry Potter. I won costume contests at midnight book release parties at barns and nobles for gods sake. The idea that I’d one day get to go to Harry Potter Land at Universal Studios was for a while a primary motivation for not dying!

But the Harry Potter books are transphobic and racist. They were always transphobic and racist. They were written by a transphobe who is now the figurehead of a hate movement. And the parts of the franchise which are not directly in her hands are violently antisemetic. Continuing to support this franchise is not just tacitly supporting violence against trans people and jewish people, it is actively enabling it by spreading their message and attracting more people to their cause.

I’m sorry if you loved Harry Potter. I loved it too. But it was never what we thought it was and now it is actively hurting people. We have a responsibility as people who cared about this story, who saw something beautiful in it, to recognize it for what it is now and put a stop to it. I loved Harry Potter. But I do not love it more than I love the lives and freedom of real people.

This too, well said. This isn't a case of "we can recognize its flaws and still enjoy it critically," because this is still causing active harm.

Imagine if someone said they LOVED PragerU's little animated kids videos, like they say "fuck prager u" in their bio or whatever but still make/reblog a lot of their content, write fanfiction about the characters, and bring up that episode with the line "I'm against slavery, but..." to talk about how much it means to them.

That's how yall sound to the rest of us.
