Probably if we were to land in our turn on the Mars we have constructed, we should merely find Earth itself, and between these two products of the same History we could not determine which was our own. For if Mars has reached our stage of geographical knowledge, Mars too must have had its Strabo, its Michelet, its Vidal de la Blache and step by step, the same nations, the same wars, the same scientists, and the same inhabitants as ourselves.

È probabile che se a nostra volta sbarcassimo su Marte quale l’abbiamo costruito non vi troveremmo altro che la Terra stessa, e tra questi due prodotti di una medesima Storia non sapremmo risolvere qual è il nostro.
